I think this is all instinct. Freud got a lot of stuff right and we do have 2 minds that think separately from each other. It can't be logical because you could then decide not to have children and then none of us would be here today. Until quite recently, sex automatically resulted in pregnancy. Relationships have to be for the long term because human babies take forever to develop and need far, far more care than other animals. This takes 2 parents to accomplish.
In my youth, I was very angry at myself for not seizing the opportunity when it presented itself. I couldn't understand why I was afraid to take what was obviously available. It was only after dumping a young woman and having her hate me forever that I realized the truth. I was not afraid of women, rather I was afraid of getting involved with a woman when I knew it couldn't last.

I don’t think the movie actually bored me so much as it was a little too lifelike for my taste. It was painful to watch. Although I did enjoy Sgt Carter’s performance as the womanizing cad.

OK, here’s the one thing I don’t like about that movie: I don’t care how ugly Marty was. Every woman in the neighborhood passed through that butcher shop. Every one of those women has a daughter, sister, cousin, etc. who needs a decent man. Marty shows up for work every day, isn’t a drunk, doesn’t blow his money on gambling, and is generally a nice guy. There is no way Marty could avoid being fixed up with every unpopular young woman in that neighborhood.
