I thought Crowley was planning on running as an independent in the general election which would split Dem votes, giving the Republican and east victory.

Today, the Dominican Republic/Haiti border can be clearly seen from the air. On the DR side, it is forested and green, on the other side is denuded vegetation and swarms of refugees clamoring to get to the other side. The DR allows very few of them in for the obvious reason that $#*+hole countries produce mostly $#*+hole people.
When I was a pup, Haiti assembled and sewed most of the Major League quality baseballs in the world. They can no longer be trusted with even that minor task. The few who manage to become productive are either taxed out, forced out or manage to escape the $**+hole on their own accord.

NY-14 went 6-1 Democrat in 2016 so even if the vote was split, Anthony Pappas, the GOP nominee has no realistic chance.
Joe Crowley, now the Working Families Party candidate isn't going to go through the trouble of complying with complicated and arcane procedures to remove himself from the ballot but he has essentially ended his campaign and endorsed Ocasio-Cortez.
This leaves 72-year old Pappas, who ran unopposed for the GOP nomination and, presumably expecting Crowley to easily be reelected, did not develop any campaign strategy. His platform is really nothing more than a forum to rant against the judge who presided over his divorce case.
Up until recently, Pappas had no campaign website, no campaign Facebook page, and had not even filed with the FEC to accept donations. It now appears he has set up a campaign website with a donation button but the FEC still reports his campaign finances as $0 raised and $0 spent.
Short of an act of God, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will go to Washington DC as the next congressional representative for NY-14.
