During July 25 to 27 temperatures in the Californian desert rocketed to an oven-like 127F (52.7C) degrees, setting records for each of those four dates

I have been to the top of Whitney too. It’s 2 wholly separate worlds, one lush and inviting and the other...less so.
I did not know they were in the same county. That’s neat. It must be one of the biggest counties in America.
It’s all salt bed at the lowest point in America.
You can totally eat it!
We cannot control the weather....
Is it feasible to just hose off your livestock in the immediate term?
Seems a shame to lose them from heat.
I been on top Whitney, twice. First time it was only 14,496’ according to USGS, been revised since then. Inyo County is the 2nd largest county in California with a population of around 17,000 (voted for Trump). San Bernardino is the largest.
Uh don’t think will be settling in that area. My wife is a native Washingtonian and wants to be closer to her elderly parents. I like the natural beauty of the PNW and looks like a interesting place to retire
we have them under open cover, with a rather large swamp cooler blowing on them. Can’t wet them when the temp is rising over 100 because of the humidity factor - like putting on a wet t-shirt after a swim in the river - you are hotter because of personal humidity. So we wait until it’s 99 or less and the temp is falling (evening) and then hose down the legs and cool their bellies off - which they all line up for. Critters can handle a day or three of brutal heat but even with a cool breeze, cool water and extra electrolytes, a few weeks above 110 wears on them, especially if the nights stay above 70. We’ve got one, our oldest, that’s looking a little shaky so we check on her every two hours to nudge her back into shade if needed. The rest are holding up ok, so far, although as you can imagine, pretty darn cranky from being restricted to their enclosure.
at end of the Murdoch Sun article:
“It come as it was forecast that Europe was to be hit by its hottest day ever as Spain and Portugal look likely to reach 48C later this week.”
1 Aug: WUWT: Over-reliance on computer models causes a forecast for extreme heat to be retracted
by Anthony Watts
Portugals Met Office has retracted its prediction that temperatures in the country could reach 50ºC the hottest ever recorded on mainland Europe this week, drastically revising the forecast down by 10 degrees.
In a statement, the IPMA said forecasts published to its website and app on Tuesday had been overestimated for the region between Melides and Vila Nova de Milfontes, and in particular the city of Sines, where temperatures were predicted to reach 50ºC on Thursday and 46°C on Friday...
The forecasts were the result of a statistical method applied to numeric models, it said.
The IPMA said the actual temperatures expected for these days were between 40°C and 42°C...

Murdoch’s Sun was one of the only MSM reporting the fake Portugal temps.

42 is 107.6F - add in humidity and it’s still not pretty for populations that think 72F is summer
I’ll link a semi-related article I read last night talking about heat cells predicted for China. Japan was also mentioned but what caught my eye was it said that mostly 137 heat index cells happen over the ocean.
Which surprised me. And made me wonder if some ghost ships ever ran into heat cells, killing everyone within hours, or if the cells ever happened in Central America or California and wiped out the natives. A heat cyclone? Like rogue waves, I don’t think there’s been much study/speculation about them but what if they were/could be a factor in historical populations suddenly ‘disappearing’. There’s so much about this planet we don’t know.
Yeah. I don’t blame you. :)
ACTUALLY, DV has one of the largest underground aquifers in the US. It's called DEVIL'S HOLE.
125 F is common in 29 Palms in the summer.
It was 136 F one summer (1985?) on top of Mt Crawford at the OP.
Its hard to find a thermometer that goes to 140 anymore.
Ive driven my MC through Death Valley when it was 120.
Its more like 150 on the pavement. The black handgrips on my bike were almost ungrippable. Hot does not begin to describe it. Its so dry that the water is pretty much sucked out of you.
When I got back to Vegas it was a tepid 105. For this Masshole that was mind blowing. I lost about five pounds in water weight in a couple of days. I was drinking gallons.
I am not trying to convince anyone its global warming. But the whole dry heat thing might apply in October, but in July its just damned hot.
I did that in 2014. The place is a heater. Opened the face mask and it was brutal. Closed the face shield and its was like an oven.
