It was one great golf day.
Not just one spectacular tournament, but a serious of recent successes.

Anyone have a golf ping list?
Congrats!!
That’s something to be proud of. 158 years!
Wow
To have your name mingled with the greats of your sport, is very rewarding.
I am so very, very, glad this guy won.
I didn’t watch it but of the 14 local channels I get, I think 4 of them were carrying the tournament.
Scanning channels, one could not help but catch some of it. I thought for a while it must be the “Tiger Woolds Show”.
So who was the Italian who won it 158 years ago?
And it comes out Molinari. Nice afternoon of golf.

Yes it was!!!
Outstanding champion golfer!
Thanks for posting this! I saw the very end, and I realized I had no idea where this guy stood yesterday. I am ashamed to say I totally mnissed some great golf. But, never mind that, congrats to Molinari, his lovely wife (who I saw on the TV) and all the competitors. Hubby was watching a bunch, it was a great tournament.
Nice job, Francesco! I’d take a bogey free round any day. 158 years? wow. He was cool as a cucumber. Well done.
WOOOHOOO Francesco Molinari. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
Congratulations to Molinari, but I always root for an American to win. Four Americans at or near the top of the leaderboard at the beginning of the 4th round, and none could get it done. Ribbit.
Since I’m American, Italian background, I may be able to get away with this:
Francesco Molinari was the Special on tonight’s menu at La Belle Italia.
One of the announcers called it very early in the final round, this morning U.S. east coast time. He did not necessarily call it for Molinari, but he said his belief was - in spite of the third round ending thus:
-9: Spieth, Schauffele, Kisner
-7: Chappell
-6: Molinari
-5: Woods, Simpson, Noren, Kuchar, McIlroy, Fleetwood, Z Johnson
-4: Rose, Cook, Scott, Hoffman, Lombard, Finau, van Rooyen
That (a) it would not likely end with someone in the lead in double digits, and (b) any of the guys down to -4 had a chance on the final day.
He said it really is a rough course with some tricky holes, unforgiving bunkers, very unforgiving high grass if you don’t stay on the fairway, and winds to pick up on the final day. Minor mistakes can cause big problems. And yes, he mentioned Molinari, saying his chances were as good as the top two on the end of the 3rd round.
For me, personally, I was rooting for Schauffele. He is not a “star” like Spieth and others his age, but he has really been steadily improving, and looking stronger. Maybe I was rooting for him because he had that “underdog” status.
Tiger looked for many holes like he was going to reach the leaders, then, he faltered and couldn’t get his game back enough. Spieth just bloopered too often the last day. Kisner was always very good, but with many “just missed” close ones.
Some good ones like Jason Day and Rickie Fowler just didn’t bring their “A” game.
It was a very good tournament. So many top players were in it and so many near the top were only a shot or two apart.
Congratulations to Molinari! Much to my surprise he is the top story in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Bogey-free for thirty-six holes on that course and through Sundays conditions is impressive. He is a worthy champion. Will we see more Italian good golfers now?
Congratulations.
Salute!
