Chicago police released body camera video on Sunday of the fatal police shooting of 37-year-old Harith Augustus, which sparked a night of protests in the South Shore neighborhood.
Supt. Eddie Johnson said he made the decision to release the video "because the community needs some answers and they need it now." He said he wanted to clear up misinformation about the shooting.
After the shooting, crowds gathered near where the shooting occurred Saturday evening at 71st Street and Clyde Avenue. Four police officers injured and four protesters arrested. Protesters threw rocks and bottles at police officers and jumped on squad cars, damaging two vehicles.
CPD released two videos, one in real time and another slowed down. The body cam video that was released does not have audio as there is a 30-second delay when the officer turns the device on.
The officer involved is in his probationary period. The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on administrative duties for 30 days.
The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. Just prior, officers on foot patrol noticed a man that they believed was armed.
When they approached him, there was a confrontation. Police said Augustus became combative, and apparently got away from police. That's when officers said they saw him reach for a weapon, and one of the officers opened fire, killing Augustus.

They believe in thug and gun rights.
And make sure you all are giving the same commands so it is POSSIBLE for him NOT to disobey instructions.
You need to watch the video over she was not reaching for the gun but His arm.
If he was legally armed ( I highly don’t think so) he did every thing wrong.
Let this be a lesson on how not to react when the police stop you.
Could have been totally different a couple examples

Just getting his life together before he goes back to college and starts working on a PhD. Everybody loves him and he was really a great kid and had never done anything wrong. /s
The mainstream media will come up with some pictures somewhere showing him just as a loving smiling good-natured guy.
Cops definitely got it right! Bad decisions make for bad consequences.
Agreed - she did grab his arm - but not strong enough to hold it. I’m guessing the one cop was having a “discussion” while waiting for the others to show up. Three cops on foot and a car rolling up. This seems pretty excessive for just noticing that a guy was armed. Although I suppose being in Chicago they figured he didn’t have it legally. But still seems pretty excessive. Was he a known criminal to the foot patrol?
Thats all well and good except when the adrenaline is flowing at 200%. Its not like they can study the situation and then react accordingly after they ponder it for 15 minutes. Police have to make split-second decisions. Not many other people have to do the same thing they do under the types of circumstances they have to face.
“Why was this guy even carrying two guns? Expecting to need to go through two loaded guns?”
The best reload is another loaded gun.
If Chicago is anything like my ex-home of Maryland, to get a carry permit you have to be “connected” somehow. This could get interesting.
He didn’t have a CPL.
Here’s Chicago’s stats for the year:
Year to Date
Shot & Killed: 241
Shot & Wounded: 1276
Total Shot: 1517
Total Homicides: 293
Are you the first to say papa-juaned or is that now a viral expression everywhere?
As I keep saying (sorry to bore anyone) we do NOT have freedom of speech.
That is a privilege allowed to persons of color and feminists.
About Papa John founder—Being a pariah, bankrupt, shunned and erased from history ,” that’s no way to go through life.”-my Animal House paraphrase.
He can go to a resort with Roseanne and Jimmy the Greek and about 200 others to cry in their beers over the words they thought were free but weren’t. Too late.
“Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes”
They are trying their darndest to get our guns aren’t they? BAMN
Yep. Looked like backup magazines on the left.
I thought he was playing gangsta and lifted his shirt up, quite possibly following orders. Then the dance out to the middle of the street and pulling the gun out and brandishing it.
The female cop was stupid in that she was too timid and leaned in off balance to lift his shirt. Very timid and probably why women should be held to the same standard as men when filling those type of jobs.
LOL! Ya, he had a “concealed carry license” and everyone knows those people run during a police confrontation.
Um, no. Concealed means concealed. And I can't imagine ANY situation where if a cop reached in to grab my now unconcealed weapon, I would run and pull said gun on two cops.
