CALIFORNIA ORDERS ONLINE GUN REGISTRATION, THEN LETS WEBSITE FAIL

'People who wanted to comply with the law simply couldn't'

The state of California is being sued for “refusing” to provide a way for gun owners burdened by a new registration requirement to comply with the law, ultimately forcing them to “face becoming criminals because they couldn’t do what the law requires.”

The lawsuit was filed by the Second Amendment Foundation, which named California’s Department of Justice and Attorney General Xavier Becerra as defendants in its request for an injunction against the agency “for failing and refusing to establish a properly functioning internet-based firearms registration system.”

Joining SAF in the legal action are the Calguns Foundation, Firearms Policy Coalition, Firearms Policy Foundation and three private citizens. The lawsuit was filed in Shasta County Superior Court.

“We’re suing because California DOJ’s Firearms Application Reporting System (CFARS) broke down during the deadline week for people to register their firearms in accordance with new state laws,” said SAF Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb.

“For a whole week the system was largely inaccessible. People who wanted to comply with the law simply couldn’t and now they face becoming criminals because they couldn’t do what the law requires.”

The organization explained the state’s required process, during the week of June 25-30, “which was the statutory registration deadline,” didn’t work.

There is something familiar about this...

Great! Now criminals can hack the system and find out where to go gun shopping. I registered some of mine wrapped in oil cloth in a waterproof container.

California’s response: You can’t register your new gun, so you can’t get one. If so you, you will be considered a criminal.

Perhaps Cali, looking for a good deal, hired the original designers of the nobamacare web site to design their gun owners web site.

Problems and complaints sound familiar.

The idiots that complied with the very first "assault" weapon registration scheme back when thought it was not going to be used against them.

Some time after that, I recall hearing a police dispatcher sending out cops to a disturbance. She advised them that there were assault weapons at that location. It was obviously being used as a database and your info popped up when queried for something.

I had a retired Deputy Sheriff say that there was no way in hell that he would register his weapons. Reason: “They know where to come and get they!”

Posted before, but when the first ban was approaching, all the AKs and ARs were flying out of the shops. Word was that it was mostly LE and retired LE buying them. My Colt HBAR went out of state, in exchange for a new Steyr "sniper" rifle.

My pathetically inaccurate Ruger Mini-14 stayed, warts and all as it was not so deadly.

Deputy told me: “I bought a Ruger Mini-14 last week because it was legal to buy and I was well trained on the range with it. Yea I know they know I got it but .....”

Ridiculous legislation. A lot of guns
are going to disappear. Only to be
found again, when the fight against
tyranny begins.

A non-functional gun registration website would pose no dilemma whatever for this old fart. Neither would a broken website for joining Islam or getting a sex change operation.
