There is only one person, LBJ, and one Party, the Democrats, who are responsible for this.

Too simplistic. It is actually more complicated than it appears. The North Eastern liberal Republicans were trying to gain a huge voting block, and LBJ just stole it from them.
The "Great Society" is the inevitable consequence when you remove tax paying as a qualification for voting. Thank the NorthEastern Liberal Republicans for doing that.
Outside of the great society, LBJ was not the liberal you think he was......he told Eisenhower on the phone that the hard left taking over the Democrat party would destroy America...he hated the left and he was right
