Former Newsweek correspondent Evan Thomas famously described Barack Obama on MSNBC as standing above the world, hes sort of God." In a Sunday New York Times book review of a new book by Donald Rumsfeld, he implies Rumsfeld is sort of Satan.
The book is titled When the Center Held, about the brief presidency of Gerald Ford. Thomas reached for John Bunyans 17th-century Christian allegory The Pilgrims Progress for metaphors about Ford:
Rumsfeld has written a kind of modern-day Pilgrims Progress about a good and godly man who enters the Slough of Despond (Washington, D.C.), is tried and tempted, but ascends to Celestial City with his virtue intact. That the narrator is a figure who has been likened in some quarters to Beelzebub makes the story more interesting, or at least curious.

Evan Thomas is evil. And very anti-American. He should leave America now and find a place where he will be happy. Hell might be good for a starter.

Evan Thomas is quite clearly a nut job.
