My buddy’s cousin has a steel business (employs @ 600 people) in Michigan and is experiencing a tremendous uptick in business. The only problem is he can’t find workers who either want to work or are able to pass a drug test. His solution moving forward is to hire Puerto Ricans. He has gone so far as to buy a hotel to house these new employees.
Mingo Jct. is actually below Stubenville, but the plant renovation will help communities on both sides and up and down the Ohio River from EPool to Parkersburg.
My brother has a small heat exchanger shop about 50 miles from this area. The search for workers is ongoing and never ending. Same story. Cannot pass a drug test, felonies, and unable to show up 5 days in a row at 0700.
There’s a guy on here who always wants all the manufacturing jobs to come back to America. Sounds great, but I’m not sure the work force he imagines exists.
He’ll tell you, ‘just pay them more’.
