That's exactly the flavor they're going for. Supposedly makes the meat more tender too.
We had an old cast iron bath tub behind the barn.
You filled it with water nd built a fire under it, get it rolling.
One person would get on each leg and we dunk em in to scald em, then you process them.
But they are dead when they go in.
In theory they are supposed to be slaughtered with a swift knife at the throat.
In reality, it's as gruesome as an Isis video with the animal trying to get away and the butcher hacking over and over and over and kicking and throwing the animal around.
There have petitions to force them to stun the animals first so they're unconscious but...All cultures are equal.

My last Dog was a Black Lab, My Son insisted I have a dog, lest I get lonely after the divorce.
Reluctantly, with plenty on my plate already we went to the Dog pound....
All kinds of misery there, and then! We saw him, a waggin his tail.
I said that’s the one.
The Boy wanted to name him, he was like “Black Bart”? “Dark Star”?
I said he is a black lab, We will call him Pookie.. Mr Pookie so he will have some dignity..

With the religious exemptions and corruption, halal meat is about as nasty as you can go.

I have an aunt who was a long time receptionist for

key execs of the chain often asked him to bring
them deer bones. Not meat, just bones.
It’s really not that hard to understand why they torture them first.
When exposed to extreme pain the body creates a lot of pain killers so strong they can cause LSD like experiences, even stronger.

Eating an animal that has died in this manner creates an extreme high, the fumes from cooking it makes you high.
When the burned witches at the stake everyone became high from the fumes given off.
Secondly - I despise this festival because they torture dogs before eating them, not because they eat dogs. As someone who likes his pork and steak, I can't condemn them for eating a dog, but I can condemn people who are cruel to animals.
From what I’ve read, the “belief” is that torturing increases the adrenalin and makes the meat supposedly taste better. Even if it does, doing this debases the people who do it — no wonder many Chinese people are against this festival as well.
