Hardline immigration bill fails in the House
The Hill ^ | Juliegrace Brufke | Juliegrace Brufke

The House on Thursday rejected a hardline immigration bill — introduced by Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) — after leadership postponed a second vote on a compromise measure written with centrists.

The 193-231 vote came a day after President Trump signed an executive order ending the controversial practice of separating children from parents who cross the border illegally.

No Democrats voted in favor of Goodlatte's bill.

House leadership had expressed pessimism on the chances for either Goodlatte’s legislation or a second compromise bill written with centrists, both of which come as the growing crisis at the border dominated headlines.

The hardline measure faced sharp pushback from both Democrats and moderates, who took issue with a number of provisions including its cuts to legal immigration.

Both bills have the support of the administration, whose "zero tolerance" policy toward undocumented immigration has come under bipartisan fire over the separation of migrant families.

The vote effectively killed a discharge petition — introduced by Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R-Fla.) in April — that would have circumvented leadership and forced votes on four separate immigration proposals. The bill with the most votes over 218 would have then been sent to the upper chamber.

The discharge petition, backed by moderates Republicans and many Democrats, nearly had its required number of backers, forcing leadership's hand in bringing forth the Thursday votes.

Trump had the Ryan amnesty killed on Friday . Trump gave the Ryan massive amnesty the green light.

*†*********************.

Read this 5 times. It is incomprehensible.

Trump has said he signs NO immigration legislation without the four pillars:

(1) creating a path to citizenship for DREAMers, (2) securing the border( the wall), (3) eliminating the diversity visa lottery, and (4) limiting family-based immigration.

one of which is the wall. He has said all along he would allow for a legal version of DACA if he gets the other things and I believe him 100%

It, too, will fail. It includes money for the border wall. Both would fail in the senate, as well, so it’s an exercise in allowing the reps a chance to go on record with a vote that they think best helps them in their districts

“There ARE plenty of votes in both houses of Congress for open borders”

There are enough foreigners willing to come to the USA to impoverish most white Americans.

That would have the most severe consequences.

Trump has flushed most of them out beyond a doubt.

Now it would be good to get anti-American tatooed on their brand so they can’t run in the future as being for border control.

My rep turned off his DC phone .

I guess I know what that means .

Call the local office !

Yes, and also caught “centrists”.

Seems a supermajority of Americans are now considered “hardliners” by the centrists at ‘The Hill’.

You got that right. Either of these bills might as well have been written by Obama himself.

And congressmen are twisting themselves into human contortionist knots to avoid acknowledging the elephant in the room which is THE WALL. THE WALL is the linchpin of any immigration bill, and without it, it's more of the same old, same old.

Nary a soul in congress is actively championing THE WALL, a shirking from which any sensible person may conclude that the cheap labor oligarchs have the congress by the balls.

You did not know what happen on Friday On Friday , Trump went on Fox and Friends and said he would not support the Ryan Compromise Bill .
The House leaders pulled the Ryan Compromise Bill .

They said Trump will not consider this bill . Then Friday night , Raj Shah the Rino Open Border Communication guy
said Trump misspoken and he supports both bills.

You understand now .

The Ryan Amnesty was pulled and then brought back .

“Of course it will fail..I dont think President Trump ever realized it til now..if he doesn’t go to the border and build the wall HIMSELF its never going to happen..the left wants open borders, and many on the supposed right want it too”

I think he was counting on it.

you think Trump has no strategy?

That's exactly what these FR sob sisters believe, despite nine gazillion instances of Trump's running rings around everyone for the last two-plus years.

Let 'em piss and moan, it's only themselves they're making miserable.

Meanwhile, I'm enjoying my Trump winnamins.

The “hardline” bill didn’t even begin to take a hard line.
