FOREST PARK, Ga. (AP/CNN) - A Georgia family is in mourning after their babysitter's dog killed their 5-month-old child.

I have a friend who was a K-9 officer. His German shepherd was extremely well trained and disciplined. He left his toddler daughter and dog alone for seconds to stir a pot on the stove. Heard his daughter scream. Went in to find dog had bitten daughters face and caused pretty massive injuries despite it being probably a nip. Knew a girl who was visiting friends and had their lap dog in her lap petting him. Dog suddenly, with no provocation, jumped up and bit girl in the lip. She had to have plastic surgery to repair. Dogs are dogs. Sometimes they do dog things.

No “responsible” dog owner leaves a 5 month old were the dog has unsupervised access to it. Doesn’t matter if it is a miniature poodle.

Apparently being a pit bull hater impairs one’s ability to read a simple sentence in English.

Dogs are dogs.

My parents had a poodle that was the most vicious thing you’ve ever seen. I wouldn’t be here today if they owned a pit bull.

The dog would attack me for nothing and my parents would ask me what I did to the dog. The little #$^**)#$.

I come from a “dog family” and, though I’m not a dog-whisperer for problem dogs, or what not, I have a lot of old common sense per these critters.

Though tragedies occur in the minority case, I wouldn’t risk it w/my kid. Never have a dog when you have an infant. You want stable-toddler at a minimum and make sure the kid actually feeds the dog at some point. Best is to not get one until the kid can actually walk the dog under control.

Dogs live by pack mentality. They need to know they are at the bottom of it in your house. When the dog is attempting to sort that out, even if it’s just aggressive play, it can kill your kid. Puppies know instinctively to stop moving when grabbed by the scruff of the neck. People aren’t wired that way.

If you change “aid” to “said” it makes perfect sense . . . more or less.

every single article I read these days has garbled, mangled and simply unintelligible sentences

The ability to read, write and think clearly is merely another tool of oppression wielded by the privileged class.

Like all forms of discipline, skill and achievement it must be undermined, then abolished.

Thats why its a good idea to step away from mASS media. It will give you a false sense of reality...and feed you lies...and if said enough one will soon incorporate it into ones life. Try the separation for one month....you’ll feel the change.

Bingo. We have a winner.

That's why children, especially babies and toddlers, should never be left unsupervised with ANY dog. My mother had a chihuahua. Sneaky little bastard. If you weren't watching he would stroll over to you and bite you for no apparent reason. Sharp teeth on that beast.

When my mother wasn't looking my wife gave him a good kick. He never tried to bite her again. ha ha

People do not understand that all dogs bite. They bite each other all the time. So why not bite you? I have seen beagle puppies(and heard) bite onto another litter mates ear and shake it like a shark back and forth. It just what they do.
It is the strength and size of the canine that determine whether the bite is life threatening.

I stopped at my neighbors house earlier this week. They have two dogs. One is a little mix breed mutt that probably weighs 15 pounds. It bit me on the back of my leg in the calf muscle when I was not looking. If my neighbor was not there to scold it, I would have punted it across the yard. It just nipped me. I had on jeans. No damage done.

The second sentence of the article says no.

“Clayton County Police Sgt. Ashanti Marbury says the German Shepherd”

Now, was the caretaker of the baby negligent? Yes. Absolutely. Is it a shame? Yes! Do we know what happened, really? Nope, not at all.

Article short on details.

Dogs can’t be trusted with very young children.

Again, it’s not the breed. Pit Bulls are just the AR-15s of dogs.

We own and have bred Lhasa Apsos. Dog breeds can/do exhibit similar traits. Just like with humans, dogs can/do exhibit traits of their parents.

I can tell you that each dog has his own personality. To just blame a breed is not accurate.

Do more people get attacked by Pit Bulls than Lhasas?

You betcha. Does that mean ALL Pit Bulls are bad? NO!

ALL dogs can cause harm to very young children. Even Lhasa Apsos.

BAN AR-15s and PIT BULLS! Then we will all be safe. /s

Ridiculous!

A very wise post. I live in a condo complex of about 300 units. These are basically 1-2-3 bedroom apartment size units. There are numerous dogs bigger than 100 lbs here! most are over 20 lbs, even my neighbors chihuahua weighs 30 lbs from lack of exercise and too much food.

I agree totally with you, big dogs do not belong here. None gets adequate exercise. And they are inherently dangerous to others, especially children.

Our dog is less than 10 lbs Lhasa Apso and we picked her out of a liter at a breeder because she was the smallest of the lot. And even a little dog like her does not get enough exercise in condo living. But we are on 3rd floor and no elevators, so that does give her some exercise. She is 14 years old now and never needed a Vet since she never had any illness. On a couple of occasions she has stomach upsets and Tums took care of that. She will get irritated eyes during pollen season, and I treat her with Visine.

Agree with the “shouldn’t be kept as widely” sentiment. Perfect for small ranches and farms , houses with big fenced yards...hunter companion, or as a watch (non- attack) dog, other than that...it is a challenge with potential hazardous risks...despite their loyalty and friendship which is a very strong factor in their favor.

“Our dog is less than 10 lbs Lhasa Apso”

I kinda talked about these dogs before. They are mostly unhinged psychopaths and lash out at everyone who isn’t their owner.

I’ve had both types and these types of dogs are more akin to rodents than dogs. Ferrets, hamsters and the like.

I have an opinion on everything though so feel free to ignore me :)

I had dogs before though. And I love dogs, I really do. I love cats and all of god’s creatures. Except snakes. And insects. I have no clue why people keep these things. But I digress; dogs aren’t a good fit everyone. In fact, they aren’t a good fit for most. Their cage is the size of whatever your home is, they rely on you for every thing they get - which is not in their nature - and they revert to feral very quickly. Like Raccoon quickly. Of which a friend of mine has a few raccoons and they are cute but they are wild.

And they are just about the same thing as dogs.
