Trump says he will sign 'something' to end family separations

President Trump on Wednesday said he will sign "something" intended to end his administration's controversial practice of separating children from their parents who illegally cross the southern border.

"I’ll be signing something in a little while that’s going to do that," Trump told reporters at the White House. "I’ll be doing something that’s somewhat preemptive and ultimately will be matched by legislation I’m sure."

Details about the order remain unknown.

The move would be a major reversal for Trump and comes after the president and his top aides insisted for days that only Congress could halt family separations at the border.

Trump said during a speech on Tuesday that congressional action is the “only solution to the border crisis.”

“We have to stop child smuggling. This is the way to do it,” he said.

His latest comments come after Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen arrived at the White House on Wednesday morning amid reports the administration was weighing an executive order to end the practice of separating families.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed Nielsen was at the White House but declined to discuss her plans.

DNA tests will prove that a lot of the “parents” aren’t.

IF he actually does it, I PRAY that the doc he signs will be chock full of “WHEREAS” clauses, each “WHEREAS” going into great detail of when this started, under whose presidencies it continued, the dates of the photos being published, Hillary’s statement at the 2014 CNN Townhall saying children should be separated, that now law is being enforced and nothing more, etc.

If the document will be out there for all to see and read, any signature block should be preceded by information.

Name one example where Trump has not gotten anything in return, when he has not gotten the better end of “the deal”.

Hey, I’m counting on it!!!! I’m waiting to see what he does.... it’s not like him to capitulate by signing and letting them win any battle.

This would be a deal breaker if he did.

I trust him, but am a bit anxious. This action WON’T please the libs, AND it will fuel the notion that the executive can act without legislative backing.

Hmmmm. Is Trump thinking of the next battle?

When I first heard, I was annoyed because it looks like pressure from the media won. However, having thought about this, what difference does it make if the parents and kids are being held, if they’re held together removes the issue (or should).

If children cannot be held longer than 20 days, then after 20 days I am assuming the whole happy family will be sent home.

Mr. President don’t sign an executive order fixing this. Make the Democrats vote on this...

That's not how it works. They're released in the United States on their own recognizance.

I actually think Trump flipped this to a win. The uniparty thought they had him backed into a corner: take our bill and we win or veto it and you lose. He said uh-uh, there’s a third choice here. And this is it. Now the trap they set is neutralized.

I do too, although lately I do see the world through Trump coloured glasses lol.

I was ticked about the omnibus spending bill, but I realized that he absolutely had to have a major injection into the military right away, with his North Korea and Iran dealings on the horizon. You have to be believable when taking a tough stance, and a military that is sadly depleted is not terribly threatening. He had to get that in place.

I hope something means he will only sign a bill that puts kids in same cell as the adults they were with; obviously never happen, but hey he can still say he will sign “something”. Only alternative is variations of catch and release.

The courts will immediately overturn this because Flores has been the rule for 20 years.

It’s a way for Trump to break the momentum-—which is huge.

I think the left used this out of sheer desperation. Trump at 45 in many polls, I think he’s at 48% in Gallup and Ras, and if you use Sabato’s rule, you have to add 10 points to any Trump poll.

The economy is off the charts, and the OIG report—while the conclusions and actions by Wray will be nothing-—the report itself is damning.

The left found itself losing huge. Right now, based on polling, Rs would gain 4 seats now held by Ds in the senate (IN, MO, ND, and FL), and probably MT, despite a recent poll (which Baris doesn’t believe). WV is absolutely a toss up as of today. We might lose AZ and NV, so the net would be +3 and possibly +4 in the worst case, and +6 in the best case.

I don’t think we can pick up PA, MI, or WI. Still, that’s a big gain.

This is what the left faces, and NOT ONE TREND is going their way.

So, . . . I’m convinced they rolled out “muh children” about four months too soon. It’s the same thing Cankles did in the election-—the “Access Hollywood” tape was released two weeks too early, because Trump was on the verge of a big, big blowout. Not by big margins, but winning a bunch of states (as he did) with small margins, including NH, ME, and MN, possibly even VA without the tape.

Now, the Ds face massive losses in the Senate and the likelihood of not getting the House. It will be close, but polling in a couple of FL districts & primary turnout in CA districts suggest they won’t get what they need, despite the freebies from PA’s redistricting.

Remember that lurking out there is Iran, and if Iran falls or is brought to the table, all bets are off. Likewise, we already saw the German auto companies backing Trump’s tariffs, which will undermine Frau Blucher.

So if you’re looking at this electorally, I think the Ds are in pure panic mode. At any minute Mulehead could pack it in, finding nothing, maybe citing “poor judgement” or some crap. At any minute McCabre and Deep Stroke could be charged. None of this will work to the Ds benefit.
