Alec Baldwin Says He 'Would Win, Hands Down' If He Ran for President

The 2020 presidential race might just be a face-off between Donald Trump and the man who plays him on TV.

Alec Baldwin — who has portrayed POTUS on Saturday Night Live since 2016 — said in an interview with Howard Stern on Monday that if he ran for president, he could unseat Trump.

In the interview embedded above, Baldwin and Stern’s conversation turns to the 2020 election, and Baldwin admits that he “can only think of a couple people who I think could beat Trump.”

“I’ve got a name for you: Alec Baldwin,” Stern replies, prompting Baldwin to say, “If I ran, I would win… Hands down, I would win. It would be the funniest, most exciting, most crazy campaign.”

Though Baldwin’s idea sounds like a joke at first — “I’ve gotta do Match Game!” he suddenly remembers, referencing his current gig as the host of ABC’s summer game show — he later becomes more thoughtful about the idea of running for president, shooting down Stern’s insinuation that he is “the hope of the Democratic Party.”

“I’m only saying [I would run] because people don’t really have a sense of who’s going to come up [on the Democrats’ side],” Baldwin continues. “Somebody great’s going to come up, I hope. But the only reason I say that is because I’d love to run for that kind of position, to have things be very common sense. There’s so many things this country needs to do that are so obvious.”

Crazy Baldwin still trying to be a comedian.

'Tis a pity that success eludes him. Forever doomed to be somewhere on the "D" list, much like Kathy Griffin once was (I understand she has recently been dropped from that list altogether).

If you listen to or watch any interview with the Donald from the 80’s / 90’s you’ll see that he’s very consistent—he’s been saying the same stuff for years.

And as for Letterman, it’s to be expected. my mom has a cousin who, in all her sluttiness, would have considered it an honor to give an oral favor to Trump—until he announced he was running for Prez as a R.

I assume he means president of Venezuela, 'cause I don't see him beating Fauxcahontas or Bernie for the dim nomination.

Hmmm, I wonder what his qualifications are?

He has been in movies and on TV.

Trump was in movies and on TV and he won. Baldwin thinks that is the trick.

Like most democrats and some republicans he does not see the other 99%.

According to Wikipedia, not much ...

Baldwin attended Alfred G. Berner High School in Massapequa[12] and played football there under Coach Bob Reifsnyder. In New York City, Baldwin worked as a busboy at the disco Studio 54. From 1976 to 1979, he attended George Washington University. In 1979, he lost the election for student body president and received a personal letter from former U.S. president Richard Nixon (with whom he had a common friend) encouraging him to use the loss as a learning experience.[14]

Afterward, he transferred to New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he studied with, among others, Geoffrey Horne and Mira Rostova at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute.[7] Later, he was accepted as a member of the Actors Studio.[15] In 1994, he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at NYU.[16]
