President Donald Trump confirmed that he agreed to stop the United States from conducting joint military exercises with South Korea. The offer came during his meeting on Tuesday with Kim Jong-un in Singapore. “We will stop the war games which will save us a tremendous amount of money,” Trump said, adding that the United States would be saving a “tremendous amount of money” by doing so.

The president made his remarks in a press conference with reporters in Singapore after the nearly five-hour summit with the North Korean dictator.

“It is very provocative,” he added.

CNN and MSNBC are making great use of the word will.

Kim says he will denuke. The media says he's lying or it won't be done for a long time.

Trump says he will stop war games. The media says that is going to happen completely soon and take away any leverage the US has.

Baloney, they left out the part where President Trump said the war games could be started up again very quickly if Chairman Kim did not follow through on his promises.

Do you just want to ride with the MSM for this?

This is why Trump is the only one who can do this. Everyone is afraid of looking weak buy Trump’s word is his strength. The rest are, quite frankly, cowards.

Pretty sure we can put our forces off his coast faster than he can spin up a nuke program.

Always thought the war games were unnecessary AT THIS POINT IN TIME. War is a technical movement. War games are all laid out. It's like playing the board game RISK with some very expensive equipment.

You really think an enemy is going to follow the War Game "directions"?

Next scheduled war games are not until next year.

POTUS gave up nothing.

Bullshit. All Kim did was make empty promises. A continued war presence is the boot on his neck. There is ZERO reason to take the boot off until we have concrete compliance.

Always thought the war games were unnecessary AT THIS POINT IN TIME.

It's mostly about coordinating movements with other country's military hierarchies.

Given that Obama ousted just about any high-ranking officer of any worth from any branch of our services, I'd say that we need the practice more than anybody else given that we've had some recent high-profile crashes over there.

Military presence is a zero sum game. And it’s much harder to reestablish than to just continue. If we aren’t there, China will be.

The overt “war games” were always a means of reminding Kim Jong Un that the power of the US was very close.

Now that Kim has met Donald Trump face to face, that was probably even more overwhelming than watching ships through binoculars going through exercises offshore.

Before, the threat was veiled and seemed to be inconsequential. Now, having been in the presence of REAL power, taking away the war games for Kim is sort of dropping the veil somewhat.

By no means was this a relaxation of intentions or vigilance.

While “war games” help cooperating armies get their many areas of cooperation in sync, we do not hurt ourselves at this point, in as much as any president, including Trump can put them back on the military agenda any time they think North Korea is reneging on its agreements. Until that proves necessary, there are some cost savings to halting them.

They’re not leaving - they are still stationed there.

“There is ZERO reason to take the boot off until we have concrete compliance.”

That is precisely what Trump is doing.

And concrete compliance cannot be achieved overnight; it is a process.

The war games were just completed for this year.

The announcement of the cessation of war games is a diplomatic/face saving gesture for Kim.

What makes you think the “boot” is off?

Our war games were not the boot. Our three carrier fleets in the area, and a “possible” disruption of his nuclear production facility are all still on the table.

Trust but verify. The cards do not suddenly cease to exist.

But Kim did destroy parts of the facility, blew them up on national TV. Gave us back some of our citizens. These are not empty promises.
