The untold reason why Jewish people do not believe Jesus is the Messiah!

Video: 'The religious leaders of the time were corrupt.'

This is no untold or secret reason. Jesus made it clear in Matthew 23:13:

"Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the door of the kingdom of heaven in people's faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to."

Throw in His comments about the money changers allowed to do business in the temple it's all straight forward.

The so-called religious men of the day were corrupt. Instead of focusing on leading people to God they were focusing on making money (much like some televangelists today and the Catholic church selling indulgences). True men of God would lead men to God. These people were looking out for their bottom line.

Jesus was calling out hucksters and hypocrites whose selfish greed kept people from connecting to God.

This may be unknown to Jews who don't read the New Testament but this isn't untold. It's in The Book.

Interesting, thanks.
So Jews look to Christians
as Christians look to Mormons,
and as Mormons, probably,
look to Scientology.

Jesus is the Messiah!

Jesus and the notion of a Messiah is apparently the issue. Is he or isn't he? I accepted the salvation Jesus offered and am now born again in his spirit. So for me there is no problem but Jesus does pose a problem for others and I never really understood why.

Old Testament Hebrew books gave me the impression that people were seeking relief from the many laws, rules, and regulations they are required to observe to serve God. I suppose many thought there must be a better way to serve God.

Jesus is the Messiah!

My filter isn't working....

Roses are red,
Violets are bluish,
If not for Jesus,
We'd all be Jewish

Because if they believed Jesus was the messiah, they wouldn’t be Jews.

It’s like asking why atheists don’t believe in God. People who believe in God aren’t called atheists. People who believe Jesus was the messiah aren’t called Jews.

How do we explain, then, that the first followers of Christ were mostly Jews?

The video seems to put all the blame on a venal religious establishment, ignoring that there were far more complex reasons why more Jews - many of whom certainly had minds that were just as independent as those of Jesus’ followers were - DIDN’T follow Him.

As a Hebrew-speaking Red Sea Pedestrian, as a friend of more than a few "high -profile" evangelicals (whom I adore - the ones who call themselves FOLLOWERS OF CHRIST,) after my years in Catholic and Anglican schools, my favorite Christians (well, the most entertaining ones) are the types who know not a word of Latin nor traditional Christian doctrine, nor the name of but a few modern Popes, nor anything at all (well, less than me, anyway) about New Testament verse and scholarship, but love to ask me why I have not accepted "Yeshuah."

The hollow sucking-up is always interspersed with some hebrewy sounding phrases and sunday-schooly bible quotes, as well as the affirmation: I am a JEW! I am GRAFTED IN!

As I get older I feel our boy Jesus of Nazareth would giggle, too. May the LORD bless us all.

If someone started a brand new religion that “accepted the ‘new testament’” but added to it, would that prove it is authentic?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joseph Smith did just that.
Some people believe it.
turned water to Wine
The Blind to see
The crippled Walk
And the Dead Rose again!...
These were his Bonifides.
"How do we explain, then, that the first followers of Christ were mostly Jews?"
Because Jesus himself was a Jew, of course. A traditional, orthodox one in every sense except that he claimed to be the Messiah and the Son of God. And he said "Salvation is of the Jews". Not that salvation is given by them, but first available to them. They were first given the Word, and were intended to spread it to the rest of the world, not hide it as though only members of an exclusive club had privilege.
The conditions of the Torah are impossible to achieve - and that is the point. Man had to learn that achieving Holiness through obedience is impossible. However, Jesus came and in his “flesh” complied fully with all of the conditions of the Torah - thus fulfilling (completing) all requirements. Once the Torah had been fulfilled, Jesus established the terms for acceptance will all nations (exactly as foretold in Isiah). Thus, Israel’s relationship with God is no longer exclusive, but others can be “grafted” into this remnant of Israel - the followers of Jesus. Now all that is required is faithfulness to the completed work of Jesus - what a Joy!!
The Jews were looking for a conquering Messiah to rid them of the Romans...
I love ya, SkyDancer, but Lil' Herod was no shnook, and we went through all this with Judah and the 'Macs! Let's just let Christians be Christians and Jews be Jews, OK? We don't wanna "redefine" you: y'all can believe what you want. We'll love you and fight beside you. Heck, we've even fought with you when you tried to kill us. Hey... Give us a break! We don't even like half of our guys, for Ch- for goodness' sake!
Oh, I miss Freeper Kenny Bunk (a devout man, mostly.) At 7 he got kicked out of Catholic School for saying:
Well... Mohammad went up there, too... And he brought a god-damned HORSE!
34 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!
35 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate: and verily I say unto you, Ye shall not see me, until the time come when ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.
10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
11 In that day shall there be a great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of Megiddon.
12 And the land shall mourn, every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;
13 The family of the house of Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives apart;
14 All the families that remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.
Plenty of Christians did spread the Gospel - it took over much of the world!
But perhaps many Jews knew - and still recognize - that what they know through their own original and ancient teachings is equal and sufficient, or even superior, for THEM.
Maybe all Jesus was doing in the first place was uncovering for them the depths of what they already possessed; and they felt or feel no need to change formally - under which perspective they may find efforts to convince them to change offensive.
(If Jews want to know about Jesus, they will come to Him of their own accord. Trying to browbeat Jews in threads like this seems no different to me than all the Catholic v. whatever-Protestant-flavor threads that we see on FR - big waste of time, productive of nothing but bad blood between people.)
I don't consider this disrespecting or browbeating Jews. After all, what is being said IS in the Bible. Both John the Baptist and Jesus, who were contemporaries, had much criticism for the Jewish spiritual leaders of the day. The leadership, not the people. And in the Old Testament the Jews would very often go astray as well, which is the general theme of the book of Judges.
On the other hand, there are plenty of Jews that have accepted Jesus as the Messiah. They call themselves Messianic Jews.
