Anti-Gun Veteran Spreads Rhetoric, But Facts Don’t Add Up

As a veteran, I’m annoyed by those who use their veteran status to try and attack our sacred and constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms. Many of these claiming that their military experience gives them perspective because they carried guns every day turn out to be people who were in the rear with the gear much of the time and are far from the operators they like to portray themselves as.

What they often do is skew their military service, not to claim anything that’s not true, but to imply they are far more intimate with warfare than they are.

That’s what it sure looks like in this anti-gun post by a woman named Becky Margiotta, who penned an anti-gun screed at a site called The Lily, which is owned by the Washington Post. Some of the things she said just don’t add up.

Facts are not relevant to the uber left wing extremists of the radical anti constitution demolibs. If it sounds good, run with it.

And of course, they don’t want to be told that places like Chicago and Washington DC and Jamaica ought to be, according to their logic, among the safest places in the world and Vermont, Maine, and Switzerland and 1950s and ‘60s England and Canada among the most dangerous.

The Democrats went in with American armored combat vehicles at Waco and burned children to death to make a political point.

No gun control.

Never.

I’m tired of 99% of the types who scream VETERAN.
(My service: OIF, and I was no “Rambo.”)
I’m tired of seeing guys talking about their PTSD from time turning wrenches stateside.
I’m tired of hearing stories about how “I was dyed orange for years after ‘Nam...”
And I’m tired of BS stories about death from radiation at “Bikini,” where not a soul got hotter than 20 X-Rays.
Sick and tired of guys I see at the Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial looking like they are right out of Hollywood, displaying unreasonable combinations of medals...
Wearing uniforms improperly.
Sorry: I’m just sick of it.

I don’t scream it. ;-) Just proud of my service. Uncle Sam decided who was going where and for how long in most cases. Obviously there are those that requested certain assignment and got them. But, when you swear in, you commit to them doing just about anything they wish with your lame butt. Up to getting you killed in action or by accident. But, I know what you mean.

“...Facts are not relevant to the uber left wing extremists of the radical anti constitution demolibs.....”

Facts are just a red-herring and are not the issue. The radical leftist agenda is. Disarming the LAW-ABIDING public is the agenda and nothing has changed.

Grenada (BTW, they love Americans) permits all the handguns you want.

Rifles are severely restricted.

I was at the local Walmart here in North Idaho yesterday and there was an older guy openly carrying a cocked and locked Model 1911 on his right hip. Nobody got killed, the police did not get involved, and I’m pretty sure not too many people noticed. We are a very polite society here, know what I mean?

I was referring not to you, but to the creeps who write these anti-gun / anti-constitution / “we killed babies in Afghanistan (Iraq, Vietnam...)” screeds.

Thank you for your service!

I am proud of how Americans improved lives, built schools, saved women and girls, and utterly demolished a vicious dictator’s regime (and his disgusting infrastructure) in Iraq, and I remain pleased and proud to have been a small part of it.

And - yes, sorry - I am not one of these Freepers who now hate Bush and, like Ted Kennedys, John Kerrys, etc, change their core principles with changing political winds.

LOL! I see it on occasion here in Reno and seems the only folks to get a little hinky are calibs from over the hill. Most locals, not so much. But, I’m of the mindset of not advertising and becoming the first target if a bad guy decides to do bad things.

It’s Idaho. It’s not too much of an exaggeration to say there are two types of people in Idaho - those who carry openly, and those who carry concealed.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office

A few things to keep in mind if you’re visiting our area for the Eclipse.

With the Solar Eclipse almost upon us, I have seen many helpful posts and public service announcements, but I feel they fall short in several areas. I will try to cover some of those.

1. Idaho has a huge amount of public land open to exploring and enjoying, but it isn’t a garbage dump. Take out what you take in. We live here 365 days a year. The public land is our back yard. We hunt, fish, trap, and camp there and will take it as a personal insult if you screw it up.

2. With that being said, not all land is public. There is a lot of private land including ranches and farms that have been in the family for over a hundred years. If there is a No Trespassing sign at a gate or road that means you. Stay out or some gentleman wearing a cowboy hat, wearing irrigating boots, and riding a four-wheeler will let you hear it. 3. We drive trucks, tractors, combines, and swathers on the highway going about our business. They go pretty slow and won’t move faster if you sit behind us and honk. In fact, they actually go a bit slower. We live here. You don’t. Be patient and enjoy the scenery.

4. There is a very good chance you will see someone carrying a firearm. Yes, it is loaded and no I don’t have a damn permit for it. Everybody, and I mean everybody, owns a gun in Idaho and a lot of us carry one quite regularly. Don’t panic. Don’t call the police. And above all, behave and treat us and our state with respect and there won’t be a problem.

5. Our dogs. Our dogs ride in the back of our trucks and they like it. Sure a few slow learners take a tumble every once in a while, but for the most part they do just fine. Don’t pet them while they are in the truck. They will bite you. Numerous times if possible. The truck is their’s not your’s and they take their security duties seriously. Again, don’t panic and don’t call the police because they don’t give a damn and they are probably going to be busy saving some tourist who received incorrect map directions from their Tom-Tom. 6. Our wildlife will kill you and it will hurt the whole time you are dying. Elk, moose, bison, and grizzly bears take great pleasure in playing hacky sack with tourists that get too close. They are wild animals and are not trained circus acts. If you must harass our wildlife, may I suggest you go catch a badger. They are really good cuddlers.

7. Our weather will kill you and yes it will hurt the whole time. It snows here every month of the year. Our back roads become death traps when it rains or snows. Your Prius isn’t an offroad vehicle, so stay on the pavement. Don’t make our brave and skilled First Responders have to go looking for you when you go exploring.

Welcome to Idaho....enjoy the Eclipse and have a safe journey home.

Sheriff Rene Rodriguez

I would love to live there!

Please realize that these so-called ‘veterans’ are in fact people who either worked in rear echelon or served without being in combat. So, in fact, they know nothing about firearms. I was drafted in 1970 (Yes I’m that old) and went through and survive Viet Nam. When I hear or see in print these stories from thee people, I normally shake my Head and say that they are CATFU (I.E. Completely And Totally Fouled Up). They are nothing but LSSSL (Liberal, Socialist, Snowflake, Scumbag Losers). They are bought and paid for by the left to spread their lies and deceit and will stop at nothing to get their way.

“No Trespassing sign at a gate or road that means you.” Well crap if that’s all it takes, we should install some at the border facing south. Problem solved.

I’m tired of 99% of the types who scream VETERAN.

My wife and I set up displays honoring local veterans at special events, museums, and for military groups. We had a large display at the Western Washington Fair for three weeks a couple of years ago honoring Vietnam War Veterans. Our co-conspirator setting up the display was a recently retired Army Senior master sergeant named Mike. Mike was in the Army or the Army Reserves from the time he turned eighteen until he was forced to retire at sixty. Somehow he managed to get himself activated in the reserves multiple times. We were told that he was a very good and animated instructor by everyone who had worked with him.

Mike is one of the least “politically correct” persons that you could imagine. I was a little surprised that we managed to go the full three weeks without getting shut down.

There was a booth not far from us staffed by a group which called themselves “Veterans for Peace”. Mike was not impressed. His conversations with the people who showed up to staff the booth revealed that basically none of those who showed up were actually veterans at all. Mike intimidated all the fake veterans who showed up at their booth so effectively that within a few days the booth was unstaffed. This was something that Mike seemed gladly took credit for and took great pleasure in pointing out.

What ever literature which someone dropped off for the public to take every morning seemed to disappear about the same time that Mike went to get some breakfast or take a “pottie” break.

Mike expressed the same exact sentiments that you just did. Mike was able to sort through the visitors in very short conversations. He seemed to have a special disdain for hippie looking older guys who said they had served for two years during the Vietnam period and claimed that they were somehow forever scarred.

Mike didn't talk about much unpleasantness to us... he stuck mostly to funny stories about his adventures and the guys he served with. But we were told by some a few of his cohorts that they had seen a lot of serious action with him. Mike said that his PTSD diagnosis was pushed on him and a lot of others... if you said you had it you got extra money. He said for $200 a month extra in his retirement benefit he was glad to claim he had PTSD and did one of his entertaining routines to demonstrate.

I should add that my wife’s dad was a combat veteran in WWII and Korea and served during the Vietnam era as well. He was wounded numerous times. He had serious problems with what we now call PTSD. My wife’s family suffered greatly because of this. So I do not mean to make light of the people who really do have a problem.

Am sure you ‘realize’ it BUT the sign is just step one.

Step TWO is the consequences might you stray where you are not wanted.....

So one is a ‘tip’, but only enforceable by #2.. or something like that.... <: <: <:

“I would love to live there!” (Idaho)

I moved here after 26 years in Alaska in 2002. I was tired of the long Alaska winters. North Idaho winters are at least two weeks shorter.

There are a lot of veterans living here in the northern counties. They are mostly the real deal - not the chair warmers that the original poster referred to. And you’re right about concealed vs. open carry. I’m usually carrying but no one knows it except me.

We’ve got one of those, Dan Helmer, in the Dim primary here in northern Virginia. West Point and tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, where he worked in counter-insurgency and intelligence. It’s unclear if he ever saw combat as he was in the training programs, but that’s still more than most.

However, he is a vocal pro-abortion, pro-Obamacare, pro-illegal alien, anti-Trump, anti-gun nutjob. Just watch a couple of his ads. In one, he compares Pres. Trump to bin-Laden.
