In a direct challenge to President Trump, Sen. Marco Rubio suggested Sunday that Congress would take steps to prevent the Chinese tech firm ZTE from being able to operate in the United States.

Trump had announced last week that he would allow the telecom giant to ”reopen,” in a stunning reversal after the United States had imposed

[snip] The senator did not go into specifics about what kind of legislative measure Congress might pursue to block the president. The annual defense authorization bills being considered in Congress already contain a prohibition on the federal government using Huawei and ZTE products. Rubio has also proposed legislation that would do the same, as well as ban sales of intellectual property and “national security sensitive technology” to China.

My guess is ZTE was a trade off for getting the Norks back to the table.

Art of the deal. You bring Kim back to the negotiating table, you get ZTE.

Rubio seems to be morphing into Linda Graham - says one smart sounding thing and then follows it up with half a dozen insane anti-Trump blathers...

Exactly. Foreign affairs are the exclusive domain of the executive branch. It’s in the Constitution, so I would not expect many of our elected representatives to be aware of it.

I agree. This was stupid on Trumps part. Getting a 500M loan from the Chinese after he lifts the sanction doesn’t look right and he opened an unnecessary can of worms now on top of everything else being thrown at him.

Dept of Defense has concerns with these phones and our soldiers as they can locate the exact location of our soldiers. Also there were concerns they were selling the phones to NK and then being sold to Iran.

I would rather error on the side of banning the phones then to allow us to continue the sale of these phones in US. Trunps organization getting a 500M deal after lifting the ban just doesn’t look right and opens a can of worms for Trump. We didn’t like it when McConnnel’s wife’s family and their Chinese contracts so we shouldn’t be on board with Trumps organization doing the same.
