Flat tax, 15% everybody pays, dismantles IRS, simplifies the bureaucracy. Wasn’t that a conservative idea?

The liberal retort to that idea was that it is not fair to tax the poor. I know, I have had several arguments with people over that sticking point.

But I still think that a flat tax is a good idea because it gives everybody a chance to participate.

The reason low income folks aren’t taxed is it costs the government more to collect any taxes than it would gain in revenue.

So that’s why in practice they aren’t taxed. What they earn, in the words of the immortal Willie Sutton, “isn’t where the money is.”

That’s always been a fact of life.

Unless you mean a national sales tax, you’re not talking about ‘everyone w/ skin in the game’.

NOBODY should pay $0% tax. EVER. Especially the ‘poor’, whom utilize govt more than the other economic strata.

Everybody wants a flat tax. Until you tell them their favorite deduction will go away, or that capital gains will be taxed at the same rate as income.
