Trump casts doubt on planned summit with North Korean leader

Jeff Mason, Steve Holland

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump said on Tuesday there was a “substantial chance” his summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will not take place as planned on June 12 amid concerns that Kim is not committed to denuclearization.

Trump raised doubts about the Singapore summit in talks with South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who came to Washington to urge Trump not to let a rare opportunity with reclusive North Korea get away.

If the summit is called off or fails, it would be a major blow to what Trump supporters hope will be the biggest diplomatic achievement of his presidency, and a huge disappointment for Trump.

“There’s a very substantial chance ... it won’t work out. And that’s OK,” Trump told reporters. “That doesn’t mean it won’t work out over a period of time. But it may not work out for June 12. But there is a good chance that we’ll have the meeting.”

It’s best to be positive.

North Korea needs to move into a peaceful path like very successful South Korea.

Just talking will tend to make things better.

Things were moving forward until Bolton shot his mouth off causing Rocket Man to lose face. I like Bolton but he should have kept his mouth shut and let President Trump handle the Kabuki theater. Up until that point President Trump had Rocket Man dancing on a string.

As the saying goes, “If you want peace, prepare for war.”

In this case, “If you want a deal, prepare to walk away.”

I'll translate, Rocket Man is trying to negotiate the unnegotiable - removing all nukes, nuke research, anything nuke an verifiable. Trump ain't doing this for show, so he'' ask China if they want more nukes in S. Korea AND conflict in N. Korea, OR do they want to tell liddle rocket man what he better do.

I do not like Bolton. He has always been primarily for himself. It must be very difficult for PDJT to get really good people to work for him. The evil Dems and swamp media have made it extremely scary to work in the Trump administration. In the past, people had to worry about doing a good job in big administration positions. Now they have to worry about having their lives ruined.

Bolton or no Bolton, this is bound to happen. I think what Bolton said in public had been already conveyed to N. Koreans beforehand. So this is not a snap decision by N. Koreans. Xi probably has more to do with what is happening than Bolton.

It is true that the real negotiation is going on between Trump and Xi. Kim Jong-un is just a pawn.

Exactly, negotiating with rocket man would be akin to taking gun policy recommendations from David Hogg.

#7: "In the past, people had to worry about doing a good job in big administration positions. Now they have to worry about having their lives ruined."

Good point. Yesterday I was shocked when I found out that Michael Caputo had to sell his house in order to defened himself against Mueller. General Flynn was financially crushed too, and had to sell his home. Mueller and his team are destroying people's lives, all based on Hillary's big lie about "the Russians".

What a filthy article! This involves ALL of our security, not a success for Trump or his supporters.

I guess democrats want to be blown up. Wacky, partisan, dishonest leftists.

Bolton didn’t do anything Trump didn’t ask him to.

A June 12 meeting is unlikely to happen as Kim is afraid to leave Chinese airspace. His plane could be forced down, then a power struggle would erupt back in Pyongyang.

If it comes to meeting time and it is still on then
Trump needs to hold AF1 in Hawaii until that little
turd has checked into the hotel and is conversing with
his first batch of hookers in Singapore.

Yah, at some level they’ve got hookers in Singapore.

We’re going ‘to free North Korea From China’....THAT is what’s happening. If we can do THAT, the tensions and rivalries of the entire Pacific will disappear.Trump thinks BIG, so he offers YUGE deals.——Thomas Wictor
