Armenian Genocide: Turkey Cracks Down

The annual Armenian Genocide commemorative event that the Istanbul branch of Turkey's Human Rights Association (IHD) and the European Grassroots Antiracist Movement (EGAM) planned to hold on April 24 -- was blocked by police, who seized the placards and banners about the genocide and carried out criminal record checks on participants. Three human rights activists were detained/released.

In an exclusive interview with Gatestone, Ayse Günaysu, an activist with the IHD's Commission Against Racism and Discrimination, said that "on their way to police station, the detainees were made to listen to racist songs containing hostile words concerning Armenians."

The annual event commemorates the April 24, 1915 round-up, imprisonment and eventual slaughter of more than 200 Armenian intellectuals and community leaders in Istanbul by Ottoman authorities -- and the unfolding of the Armenian Genocide. The victims were brought to a prison, now a building that houses the Museum of Turkish Islamic Art. The Armenians were then taken to the Haydarpasa railway station, where they were transported to Anatolia for their ultimate extermination. According to Günaysu:

In Turkey, to speak of the word "genocide" much less the words "Armenian Genocide" puts a person in danger of being jailed or worse.

Why do they continue to deny the Armenian Genocide? (an indisputable fact)

Because they have never stopped practicing a slower version of it. And never intend to.

After their recent invasion/mass displacement (ethnic cleansing) of Afrin to replant the remaining seeds of ISIS along with al-Qaeda and other Jihadi's it is clear that Erdogan intends to expand the practices. Perpetrators of unwarranted and undeserved attacks always try to blame the victim, as we are seeing in our own time with the attempted Democrat coup against PDJT.

Very sad. The truth will always out.

If the USA doesn’t get back to constitutional principles, it will happen here. And you and I will be the victims. I might be able to dress as a religious Muslim here or as a religious Jew. But I would be risking my health to wear a MAGA hat. I cannot freely practice my lifestyle. If I married three fellow women and a goat, I’d be accepted. There is no amount of tattoos and piercings I could sport and still walk freely. But if I advertised my support of our duly elected President I’d be treated with hate. My served coffee would be 20% saliva or worse.

In Turkey and in the US, those “leaders” /sarcasm hate the truth. The Truth destroys them.

Yes, they will hate us. The Scripture clearly stated that. Christian or Jew, they hate both of us.

They hate what freedom and cooperation do, it empowers the citizens and businessmen to succeed. But it destroys the power and leverage of the leaches at the top. Not all real leaders are like that. Honesty in business is a serious matter. Companies cannot succeed long term without it.

Totalitarianism in all form is EVIL! No matter what they call themselves. And they serve the prince of darkness not the prince of light.

One of the mistakes we make is seeing these massacres as separate and discrete events. It makes it difficult to understand the broader dynamic.

I think that, thanks to ISIS and Al Qaeda, we are finally understanding the Armenian/Assyrian/Greek genocide, and Beslan, and Fatah, Hamas, Hezbollah, Baath, Taliban, and the whole alphabet soup of psychotic killers that the middle east incubates continuously.

Pretty soon Turkey is going to kill every single person who says they commit genocide.

Because Islam never apologizes, because the way of Muhammad is the perfect way to behave, and if one should follow it, then he can never do any wrong.

They have never once questioned their ghastly massacre of innocent Armenians.

That’s one thing I knew before being stationed there; I never apologized either and it drove them nuts.

I watched the move “the Promise” about 6-8 months ago. It was recommended by a couple of friends.

Thought it was well done. Probably less bloody than the actual genocide was, but it was not gory or sick in content. It was certainly tragic.

Not sure I can ever forgive the Turks for what they have done to some of my Syrian Kurd friends.

Turkey is playing the US. Putin is playing with Erdogan, like a cat plays with a mouse. Erdogan is totally disloyal to every one. That will eventually consume him.

Yes. And then blow up all of the NATO planes we sold or gave to him. So he won’t give them to Putin.

Saw the movie and it was good. We need more of it.

What is ironic is that Russia and Turkey are traditional enemies, in fact the Turks claimed the Armenians were secretly helping their orthodox Russian brethren. Turkey being on Germany’s side in WWI.

Gallipoli was the failed effort by the Brits to open the straits for Russia to the Black Sea.

My opinion of the Russia/Turkey relationship is similar to yours.

I don’t believe anything that Turkey says about anything. They are totally untrustworthy. Now and from the beginning.

In the beginning, under Kemal, they were not Jihadi’s. Turkey then, gave lip service to secularism. There are some that say Kemal was an atheist, I believe he was.

The Movie? Need more? Yes. There are some concerning the tragedies in Norther Syria. I have not viewed them, but I suspect some of them are politically motivated. So, we’ll have to wait to see where they go.
