Russia’s first-floating nuclear power plant arrived in the Arctic port of Murmansk over the weekend in preparation for its maiden mission, providing electricity to an isolated Russian town across the Bering Strait from Alaska.

How does the beached whale connect to the article or Fukushima?

At what location was the photo taken?

Was a vivisection done on the whale carcass?

In today’s world, it is illegal to touch or possess parts/pieces of a dead whale.

I was thinking the same thing. Hasn’t at least one nuclear sub sunk?

USS Thresher SSN 593 April 10, 1963 Performing deep dives after refit when a leak on sea water piping developed. (129 lost).

USS Scorpion SSN 589 As I was reading some of the articles after a DUCKDUCKGO search, and they discussed a torpedo malfunction. They also discussed the possibility that a Soviet sub got her. May 22, 1968 with 99 crew.

I was on a later sub and next to the EOOW (Eng Officer of the Watch) was a subsafe panel where aux sea water cooling systems could be isolated. This was in response to the Thresher loss.

The reactors had a natural circulation cooling design that would prevent meltdown upon loss of forced cooling. I have no idea how long the reactor vessel and fuel cladding would be designed to prevent fission products from being dumped into the environment. I bet they have a number.

There are youtube documentaries on these submarines.

Most nuclear waste is stored on the premises of nuclear plants.

http://www.omaha.com/money/nuclear-waste-with-nowhere-else-to-go-languishes-at-nppd/article_03fdad03-6dc8-5933-a3c0-38c3c5d80020.html

Most plants have aged out, are defacto repositories for spent fuel and push skyrocketing tritium contamination into the water table. Blue sky pro nuclear propaganda works every time.

“Russia’s first-floating nuclear power plant”

This is news because Russia has never had a nuclear power plant at sea before.

Really? Is the media really this ignorant to believe the Russians don’t have nuclear powered ships?

Yes high level waste (spent fuel) in the United States is stored on the premises because the government has failed to honor agreements to take possession of high level waste. As a result utilities have turned to dry storage until the government takes possession. The dry storage systems are very safe, and have been licensed by the NRC. Low level waste (contaminated coveralls, etc) are shipped to approved storage sites. Yes, tritium is produced as part of the operation of water cooled reactors. Tritium is usually vented to the atmosphere in low concentration within the NRC limits, not skyrocketing levels at all.

By the way, the subject Russian floating reactor is a liquid metal cooled design, similar to their latest submarine reactor designs, so no tritium being produced.pP> My so called “blue sky propaganda” is based on a lifetime in the U.S. nuclear industry. Unverified “dead whale propaganda” on the other hand?

As previously stated I have concerns with Russian construction quality and operator competence. Yes, the IAEA and other regulatory organizations should monitor this plant carefully. However, the basic design has been operated safely for a number of years in the Russian navy.
