Venezuelans, reeling under a devastating economic crisis, began voting Sunday in an election boycotted by the opposition and condemned by much of the international community but expected to hand deeply unpopular President Nicolas Maduro a new mandate.
Maduro, the political heir to the late leftist firebrand Hugo Chavez, has presided over an implosion of once wealthy oil producer Venezuela's economy since taking office in 2013.
Hyperinflation, food and medicine shortages, rising crime and broken water, power and transportation networks have sparked violent unrest, and left Maduro with a 75-percent disapproval rating.

No sympathy.
Whats the point? The opposition knows the vote is rigged.
Can there be stronger validation of our 2nd Amendment than Venezuela?
This is why the Second Amendment is the most important right.
“What I dont get is how the Venezuelans dont rise up and violently overthrow the Chavistas”
that’s really tough to do when you’re starving and have no weapons ...
“Then it’s time to pick up your their guns and .... uh.....No Second Amendment....
(Shruggs shoulders)Whats the point? /sarc.”
The opposition has been valiantly fighting back as best the can, including mass demonstrations. Because they have been disarmed, they die trying. It will take the military switching to their side because of mass civil resistance and disobedience to change the equation. Hopefully that will happen sooner than later. I wonder if Trump at some point will intervene in some way. He’s got his eye on Venezuela as we speak.
At this point only the junior officers of the military are the country’s only hope. The senior officer corp would be rotten with Madura and Chez cronies.
Doubt and really hope Trump keeps our involvement at an minimal. We just cannot afford to be the world’s savoir time after time.
It is Venezuelan’s duty to take care of this themselves. Gird up that famous Latin “machismo” and cut their oppressors throats and regain your independence.
The wealth of your oilfields will do you no good if you’re not in charge of it.
“Git her done”
Why don’t Venezuelans rise up?...it seems that Chavez convinced the sheeple to disarm some time ago so now only tbe police, Maduro loyalists and military are armed
No guns and Maduro has a Gestapo run by Cuban intelligence.
As long as he controls the voting machines he is a shoe in just like his predecessor.
