While Arthur the Asshole was chief in Austin, he made one public statement that could be interpreted as encouraging swatting calls on law abiding gun owners. This chief is dangerous.
OK, thanks for the tip. From now on I’ll to refer to GVRO’s as SWATing by other means.
When the po-po show up at a citizen’s door with a piece of paper that tells them that the person inside is armed and dangerous, they’re going to be in SWAT mode. I don’t think the Red Flag laws even require the po-po to give notice that they’re on the way. The mentality is identical to no-knock drug raids.
Because, if fingered citizen gets a phone call saying “this is the police and we’re coming to seize your guns”, those guns could go flying out the back door to safe storage & citizen will say something like “oh, I moved them out of state months ago”. That’s what the po-po assume will result so the entire operation from initial denunciation to officers at the door must all take place without citizen’s knowledge lest he be forewarned.
Again, due process, including the right to confront one’s accuser, be d@mned.
