The exact reason China has bolstered their surface / submarine / anti-missile capabilities over the last decade.

The Chinese expect the U.S. to come to Taiwan's aide. I believe we passed a law back in the 70’s...Taiwan defense act.

Chinese sunburn missiles were designed to take out American ships. Not sure if they could, but that's is their goal.
