We started skipping the open. The rest of it is better than average. The news segments are anti trump, but they are actually funny.
The whole Alec Baldwin as Trump lost its shine the second week they did it.
SNL has been written off 40 times. It usually comes back.
Because it is a terrible time slot, no one else wants it.
Not one, not one of those people have I seen nor do I expect to see in the future. No charisma at all.
I mean, come on! No wonder SNL is dying.
Most people don't understand the real reason SNL exists, which isn't ratings per se. It is kind of a AAA minor league of comedy actors and writers who have been given a chance to prove themselves as audience draws. The network is always looking for the next star of the next tv show or movie, and this gives both the actors and the network a kind of extended interview to see who can make it. All it costs is some modest salaries and a junk time slot to find the next Belushi or Eddie Murphy. Any ratings or profitability is clearly secondary to the constant need to find new actors and writers.
SNL will not end, but I can see Lorne Michaels "retiring", and a cast wipeout for next season.
Alec Baldwin just goes to prove that Amityville managed to get rid of it’s horror by passing it along to Hollyweird.
I still watch for Baldwin as Trump. Some weeks it misses. But many weeks it’s spot on. The rest of your post is pretty spot on.
If you’re talking about the special guest starts and their monologue, I would agree. If there is a short up front before that, those have over the years been some of their most cutting edge offerings.
I haven’t watched a skit in ten years.
The show was brilliant in 70s/80s.
