We beg to differ in calling this a "prestigious prize".
Any who understand exactly who was given this in the past could understand why.

Our President Trump needs no 'prize' as some would need
a carrot. Already a big name and well known; he only desires to MAGA.

Dylan did end up accepting it, which I expected him to do, if only for the million bucks.

But he sent Patti Smith (ugh!) to the ceremony to pick up the trophy for him.

“The Nobel Prize today is meaningless. Might as well give one to Taylor Swift.”

She did more than Obama.

The Marxists would rather marginalize NPP than award it to Trump.

Considering obama got the “prize” for doing absolutely nothing, literally, then the value of that prize drops to zero. It’s meaningless. And then Al Gore got it for his climate change crap which made it a complete joke before obama got it.

It could just as well be given to a kid for doing a good job of cleaning his room, thereby keeping the peace with his parents. At least this would be a greater accomplishment than whatever obama did to get it.

The Nobel Peace Prize is now only meaningful as a paperweight. It joins the “Oscar” award’s only value as an outhouse doorstop.

I hope my POTUS is awarded the NPP and turns it down, citing “my cousins hamster is in town for the weekend, so I must decline the invitation”

Probably not officially.

https://www.nobelprize.org/nomination/peace/

Dang, USA has what - 550 or so members of the national assembly plus cabinet plus head of state. Times 200+ countries = 11,000 nominators right there. Trump couldn’t nominate himself, but any member of his cabinet could.

University professors - worldwide there must be millions of those.

I don’t know what constitutes a “peace research institute” or a “foreign policy institute.” Could you send the committee a nomination from “a fool in paradise’s peace research institute?”

Hmm, I did not know that. I only heard that he refused it.

Maybe it’s time to ditch the prizes for anything other than science and medicine. Although since the prize is an endowment, that is probably difficult to do.

I can’t imagine that giving the prize essentially for anything that advances socialist dictatorship, terrorism, and crushing of liberty—the activities most likely to be awarded wth the prize these days—was really the intent of Alfred Nobel. He actually cared about people.

Don’t forget Grammy winners like Milli Vanilli, Winchester Cathedral, and Barack Two-Time Obama.

Sometimes when you see honorary degrees/titles/awards given, it is just to get a name celebrity to show up (and pay their own way).

Colleges have used this at graduation for decades and some got wise to it and stopped accepting them.

I’m sure they blocked other nominations for Trump, saying he was already nominated.

Now they removed his nomination.

Sneaky

“Only a select group of individuals — including members of parliament and government, former laureates and some university professors — are entitled to propose names.”

That’s not fair.

Have you ever thought how it makes people feel who are not in the “select group of individuals.”

Indeed. Liberals destroy everything they touch.

Fake nominations for fake awards should only amuse anyone of integrity.

The unseemly aspect of Obama’s award was the premature nature of it.
