Swept away with the Iran nuclear deal was the Obama doctrine of multilateralism.

The message President Trump sent today is America matters. While the Euroweenies whine, the cold reality is London, Paris and Berlin wouldn’t last long without our protection.

They know it and we know it and today’s decision more than anything, restores American leadership. We’re no longer leading from behind.

It will take awhile for the world to catch on.

The president today said he keeps his promises. Let's hope he keeps his promise to withdraw American troops from Syria.

As far as his policy towards Iran is concerned, while I hope it works out for the best for the US, I am not optimistic.

More winning. Nice to have a politician who does what he says he will do. The Euros just want to continue making profits off Iran - maybe they don’t see history repeating itself as with the NORKS or just don’t care.

They do but Eurotrash business deals with Iran are histoire.

Nearly every European company also does business in the US and are subject to sanctions if they help Iran in any way.

As a practical matter, the JCPOA is effectively dead.

“It isn’t a treaty that was ratified by Congress. Therefore, Trump withdrawal doesn’t require Congressional approval/authorization. Obama cleaver by half. Outfoxed.”

They never, EVER considered that Hillary could lose.
JEB! was supposed to be the foil, the coopted opposition.
They never saw Trump coming.

I believe Trump has listened to his military intelligence regarding the dastardly Iranian deeds in recent years, and has decided to take the gloves off and back them in a corner.

Its about damn time.

>> Corker and McConnell could not have stopped it even if they wanted to. <<

McConnell could have stopped it in a heartbeat. Declare it a Treaty, subject to the Treaty Clause Article II, Section 2, then tell Hussein Obama/Kerry to screw themselves.

“The Rand Paulistinans much prefer the kenyan to Trump on middle east policy.”

Not so. There is a right reason and a wrong reason for dumping the Iran deal. There are factions that have been pushing for dumping the deal for the wrong reasons and that was what Rand Paul was opposing.

The right reason for dumping the Iran deal is that Iran is cheating by continuing to develop its nuclear weapons program. Both the prospect of an Iran with nukes, and the weakness demonstrated by the US and its allies failing to enforce the agreement - are destabilizing factors and increase the prospect of war. Therefore the deal must be scuttled for the sake of peace in the region.

However, there are wrong reasons to favor scuttling the deal: There are pro-war factions who would profit politically or financially from conflict. These factions favor dumping the deal because doing so will involve returning to tough economic sanctions on Iran that were lifted as part of the deal. They believe these tough sanctions will increase the likelyhood of co.

Rand Paul was originally against the deal because he understood the inherent weakness of the deal would be destabilize the Middle East. But he now opposes dumping the deal because he is suspicious of the motives behind doing so.

If it is motivated by pro war agitators wishing to provoke the Iranians, he is against it. I think when he realized Trump’s reason for scuttling the deal was peace through strength, he will support the policy.

Nonsense. They could declare it anything they wanted. Obama would sign it regardless. Obama and Rhodes used the Senate as part of the scam. They turned the treaty process on its head requiring only a one-third vote for approval.

If the Senate had not gone along with the scam, Obama would have bypassed the Senate entirely. The fix was in.

We will never know. What is however clear, is McConnell surrendered his Constitutional power to consider this scam a Treaty. The GOP went along. It would be a leap even for this SCOTUS that they would have overturned a direct Constitutional authority.

"Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution gives the President the power “to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur.” And the Supremacy Clause provides that “treaties,” like statutes, count as “the supreme law of the land.”"
