PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two black men arrested for sitting at a Philadelphia Starbucks without ordering anything settled with the city Wednesday for a symbolic $1 each and a promise from officials to set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs.

The men and their lawyer told The Associated Press the settlement was an effort to make sure something positive came out of the incident. "We thought long and hard about it and we feel like this is the best way to see that change that we want to see," said Donte Robinson, one of those arrested.

if the men had been white, and the owners were black, would the white men be getting $200,000 for not ordering anything?

“....set up a $200,000 program for young entrepreneurs.”

I bet this program will teach these young entrepreneurs how to shakedown Social Justice outfits like Starbucks for fee sh!t.

Wonder what the lawyer’s cut is - 1/3 of $1 or 1/3 of $200k?

Good for them. They were treated badly and seem to have decided not to try and cash in personally on the incident.

Not sure why the negative comments. This is actually surprising that they didn’t use this opportunity to enrich themselves. Perhaps they genuinely care about the community and opportunities for young black entrepreneurs. Having said that, they should have just bought a couple of coffees to avoid this whole mess :-).

Typical SF Comical reporting - the grieving victims (/s) have settled with the “City” - but, have they settled with “Starbucks” ? Read another paper and they were equally vague. Anyone have better detail ?

Mission accomplished for these two. This was the whole purpose of taking up seats and refusing to leave.

Nevertheless, I will continue to go to Starbucks.

To use their toilet, that is. Something I do fairly often and never had any static over it.

Buy anything? Are you kidding?

Man oh man I love having White Privilege. /sarc

Errin Haines Whack is missing the real story here:

San Francisco has a serious problem with homeless drug addicts and vagrants peeing on sidewalks and pooping on streets.

Mix that with this story and you get the progressive solution of all time. HAVE THE DRUG ADDICTS, HOMELESS AND MENTALLY ILL VAGRANTS HANG OUT IN SAN FRANCISCO’S TONY COFFEE HOUSES AND RESTAURANTS.

What’s with my fellow Freepers today?

These two took the HIGH ROAD, they took NOTHING for themselves and got the offending company to settle the dispute by HELPING OTHERS in a way many of us would like to see, to become ENTREPRENEURS.

The critics on this thread are ridiculous and small.
