Trump Threatens to 'Get Involved' If DOJ Doesn't Fork Over Docs
Newsmax ^ | 2 May 2018 | Mark Swanson

President Donald Trump on Wednesday called his own administration a "rigged system" and threatened to "get involved" a dispute between the Justice Department and Congress over the release of documents.

Trump appeared to be responding to frustrations from conservative Republicans that the Justice Department has not turned over documents related to controversial topics, including surveillance of former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page.

The presiden has been open about his frustrations with the Justice Department over its handling of the special counsel's Russia investigation.

Trump's timing also appeared to be linked to Fox News contributor and former congressman Jason Chaffetz's morning comments about the DOJ and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein's assertion that he won't be "extorted" by Congress.

At issue there: The DOJ's documents detailing the FBI's investigation into the now closed case of Hillary Clinton's private email server.

House Republican lawmakers have threatened impeachment if Rosenstein and the DOJ don't hand over the documents they seek, unredacted.

Rosenstein on Tuesday said, bring it on.

"I can tell you that there have been people who have been making threats, privately and publicly, against me for quite some time," Rosenstein said. "I think they should understand by now the Department of Justice is not gonna be extorted."

Chaffetz, former chairman of the House Oversight Committee, wasn't having it Wednesday.

"You can impeach a civil officer. For (Rosenstein) to say Congress is going to extort him by exercising their constitutional responsibility means to me he needs to go brush up on the Constitution," Chaffetz said on Fox News' "America's Newsroom."

The Justice Department does not "want to provide the documents. This deep state doesn't want to be exposed. So when (Rosenstein) thumbs his nose at Congress, he thumbs it at the American people," Chaffetz said.

Jeff Sessions is a treasonous POS, likely a deep-state plant from the beginning. He has stabbed Trump in the back, and continues to do so by not resigning. Alabaman’s should be ashamed of this spineless poltroon.

Fire Sessions and Rosenstein for REFUSING TO COMPLY WITH CONGRESS!

Brilliant! That would tie them in knots for the next five years.

Rosenstein wrote the letter to Trump recommending the firing of Comey, then when Trump follows his advice and fires Comey Rosenstein appoints a special prosecutor because of the firing, how does this work?

Ethically and legally Rosenstein is compromised in the entire investigation. He should have taken no part of the special prosecutor process. If I am on a jury how to I trust any testimony from Rosenstein either for or against Trump? I can’t.

Sessions, I like him but if he isn’t actually doing something behind the scenes he is going to go down in history as the James Buchanan of Attorney Generals.

“In before the Sessions bashing.“

All our useless AG has to do is order the documents in question to be released immediately.

So....why hasn’t he done that?

“Part of the 4D chess plan?”

Keeping details of an ongoing investigation out of the press? That’s standard operating procedure.

A politician talking like he wants something done pronto when he really doesn’t? That’s SOP as well. There’s nothing “4DChess” about it - it’s just common sense.

The Sessions haters and neverTrumpers think if they sarcastically call something “4D Chess” it will make it sound farfetched. It’s a dishonest debate tactic known as a “straw man” argument - but it only works on the dumbest of the dumb.

Your spam response on every DOJ related thread is getting old and reflects poorly on AG Sessions.

“Sessions is complicit in RosenRat’s OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE by IGNORING subpoenas from OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS IN CONGRESS demanding documents from the DOJ.”

Then, using your logic, Trump is complicit as well for not firing Sessions.

I figure these documents either hurt Trump or they absolve Trump. If they hurt Trump and the DOJ is deep state, why would they hold them back? So they must help Trump, right?

Well, if they help Trump, then why hasn’t Trump fired Sessions and Rosenstien and replaced them with someone who will turn the docs over unredacted? Because congress would call it obstruction and impeach him? No, that can’t be it because it’s congress that is demanding the documents.

A better explanation is that the DOJ is working on stuff that benefits Trump - it absolves Trump and/or helps drain the swamp - but they are still building their case so they don’t want anything leaked yet. These cases are complicated - people getting flipped - deals getting struck - sting operations that depend on secrecy to apply leverage.

Everyone knows these congressional committees are leaky as sieves. The congressional committees are bi-partisan - there are some good guys, but also bad guys on those committees.

Trump obviously wants the DOJ to complete what they are working on or he would have fired people for insubordination - but he has to act outraged and demand they fork over these documents - or his enemies will say he’s part of a coverup.

That’s the only explanation for why Trump (a man of action) keeps making idle threats. He huffs and he puffs but stops short of actually doing anything about it.

Trump involved? Please. What has he done with the DOJ, FBI, CIA now? Not a damn thing. I am really getting discussed with him for not showing his authority and clean up the swamp. So far the swamp and communists judges are winning.

Trump and the Republicans in the House and Senate have lost control. America will never recover. It has gone to far and too long. The rest of Trumps term will be like a lame duck Presidency.

Trump has threatened to intervene, which means he is considering ORDERING the DOJ to fully comply with Congress’ subpoenas.

Sincere question; do you think that Session's believes that President Trump is being framed in this Russian stuff?

Thx!

“Trump has threatened to intervene, which means he is considering ORDERING the DOJ to fully comply with Congress’ subpoenas.”

My point exactly! Trump is known to be a man of action, but in this case he’s only “threatening” and “considering”, but no action.

If he really wanted the DOJ to fork over the docs unredacted, he could have made it happen long ago. He’s the POTUS, and a strong one at that.

...there is something happening in the DOJ that benefits Trump and he knows it, and he does not want it interrupted or leaked...

Well then, if it is kept under wraps, how will that benefit Trump.

Also, a number of Republicans have threatened Trump with impeachment if he fires Rosenstein or Sessions.

The Republicans are either fools or Deep State operatives.

Here’s a slightly different plan:

VP Pence, who is the President of the Senate, the presiding officer, walks into the Senate chambers, takes over the chair, then announces the the Senate is in Recess. Then he bangs the gavel and walks out.

Nobody can object, there is no vote allowed. When the presiding officer announces Recess, it’s a done deal.

Then President Trump signs an order firing Rosenstein and in the next moment, appoints his best, most reliable loyalist to a recess appointment to replace Rosenstein.

The new guy, after being sworn in, calls Mueller to his office and tells him the investigation is over, there are to be no more interrogations, just a final report within 7 calendar days.

Or, if Team Trump wants to play it a little safer, instead of closing the investigation, he gives Mueller a document reversing all of the authorizations Rosenstein gave Mueller that were outside the original charter. Then, he gives Mueller a document that defines the crime he is to be investigating. Maybe something easy, like sedition.

Of course, there is no evidence for that crime, so the investigation is over quickly.

Also, he orders Mueller to turn over all remaining investigations that are beyond the charter to AG Jeff Sessions because Sessions is not recused for those areas. Then, Sessions can be held responsible for SOMETHING, and then possibly fired for failure to do his job.

Boom!

Wouldn’t surprise me to learn he’s been filmed doing the dirty deed in some filthy Senate bathroom.

Fire anyone who refuses?

Arrest and charge with sedition.

Then send in US marshalls OR US marines if that’s what it takes to make the Deep State traitors comply.

Trump can’t arrest and charge them. That comes later. First step is to fire them.
