The median household income in New York City is $50,711. Yes, you can live well in New York City and it takes a lot of money. And you can live much better elsewhere for a lot less money.

The company store is the state. The slave is the highly compensated schmuck who lives in a house, sends his kids to school, leaves his trash at the curb, and pays the company store for it all.
