This huge collection of stars is on the scale of “it’s a Mad, mad mad mad World”?
RE: Part of the storyline, where he becomes the Nomad. Disney/Marvel are just following a classic Marvel storyline.
I almost forgot about the story line ( it was so long ago, over 40 years ). It was Captain America with an identity crisis ( albeit short lived ). I remember Marvel took this story line not long after Nixon resigned, and soon after we abandoned Vietnam to the Communists.
If I recall correctly, Steve Rogers (AKA Captain America) becomes disillusioned with the United States government, when he discovers that a high ranking government official (heavily hinted to be the then President of the United States Richard Nixon) is the leader of the terrorist organization known as the Secret Empire ( now that Nixon has died, will it be Trump? Knowing Hollywood, they’d probably consider the Trump like character.... ).
Rogers then decides to abandon his Captain America identity, feeling that he cannot continue to serve America after this latest discovery has shattered his faith in the nation’s status.
However, a confrontation with Hawkeye forces Rogers to realize that he cannot abandon a life of heroism, and he subsequently takes on the name “Nomad” (as it means “man without a country”) adopting a new dark blue and yellow uniform with no patriotic markings on it at all.
Anyway, after just a few issues, Steve Rogers returns to the role of Captain America when he realizes that he could champion America’s ideals without blindly supporting its government.
There’s a conservative message here somewhere.
For those with good memories... can anyone tell me what happened to his Vibranium Shield when he became the Nomad?
I predict that the one bad one will be the Black Widow movie.
Certainly not good that they inserted his NOT Captain America persona into the story. IIRC he left his shield behind after fighting Iron Man in the last movie.
The answer depends on if you have seen Captain America Civil War
I was watching movies with my sons, 21 and 25 years old, the other day.
I pulled out my CD of The Sting. Told them how great it was.
Halfway through, my youngest asked me "When does it get good?"
I realized then, that just like I did not appreciate most movies made in the 1930's (with notable exceptions), my boys don't really appreciate slow moving, plot and character driven movies.
It's a generational thing.
I’m an old school DC and Marvel Comics fan going back over 40 years and, I hate to say, but I’m kind of burned out on superhero movies.
Combine that with so many of the stars (Chris Evans, the guy playing Hulk, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johannson, etc) being loudmouthed leftists, I just can’t develop much enthusiasm.
Chris Evans’ agent is what happened.
As near as I can tell, from searching, it looks like he gave it back to the US government, as it was still US property.
So was this adapted from a comic book?
Is the ending already spoiled for those who read the comic?
I know some of these action hero movies are entertaining, seen a total of two myself. However, its depressing thinking back 40-50 years when blockbuster movies were Patton, Godfather(s), French Connection, The Sting, The Exorcist etc.All those movies were released prior to the granddaddy of the summer blockbusters.
Blame Steven Speilberg (or Peter Benchley).
RE: I realized then, that just like I did not appreciate most movies made in the 1930’s (with notable exceptions), my boys don’t really appreciate slow moving, plot and character driven movies.
I dunno, I am a baby boomer ( born just before Generation X ) and I LOVE the 1930’s movies. Charlie Chaplin, The Marx Brothers, The Wizard of Oz, Fred Astairs and Ginger Rogers, The John Ford films...
Those were classics !!
Also what other Marvel Studios flicks are prerequisite to understand what goes on in this one?
Lee was not only the master of the cliffhanger, he figured out how to get kids to buy several titles of his books years ago.
I always wondered if the Jaws poster chick about to get snarfed up was nekkid.
Yep.
She went skinny dipping. Her boyfriend was too drunk and passed out on the beach.
I don’t know...none of these ever flipped my switch:
Grand Hotel
Cavalcade
It Happened One Night
The Great Ziegfeld
The Life of Emily Zola
You Can’t Take It With You
What do they all have in common? They all won the Oscar for Best Picture in the 1930’s.
It was awful. Don't remember it being that bad but apparently my generation had lower standards.
I will never get these movies made from dumbass comic books. And that they are pulling in such large audiences and making billions in profits. So have fun watching it, those of you that do.
The government paid for and made that vibranium shield so when Captain America went rogue the gov kept the shield.
The Capt needs to have a chat with the Black Panther to get them to make him a new one of his own.
No accounting for taste. I’m quite fond of three on your list. And it Emile Zola, not Emily.
