Calexit plan to divorce California from US is getting a second chance
CNBC ^ | April 24, 2018 | Jeff Daniels

California's secession movement will get a second try as the state's "war" against the Trump administration rages on several fronts.

On Monday, the California Secretary of State's Office announced that a secession ballot proposal has been cleared to begin gathering needed signatures. It comes amid other efforts that seek to split up California

"Calexit is left — we are progressive, and that's why we don't like Trump," said Marcus Ruiz Evans, one of the leaders of the Yes California campaign seeking California independence. "But there are some very hardcore Republican concepts to Calexit, including the group saying don't waste our tax money."

Evans said the group's membership has risen by "about four times" to roughly 44,000 members since the election of President Donald Trump

A similar effort by the backers of Calexit failed last year after negative fallout emerged following the disclosure that its leader, Louis J. Marinelli, was living in Russia. Marinelli, who is still listed as one of the backers of the measure, said in an interview he "travels to Russia and has worked there from time to time but is still a resident of California."

If the current Calexit measure gets enough signatures to qualify, it would result in a special election in 2021 to ask California voters whether the state should become an independent country. The backers need almost 366,000 signatures of registered voters to qualify it for the ballot.

Haha, utter nonsense, if you think the US would allow a communist country to set foot in America during a war.

What a very bad idea. Furthermore, any areas outside of SF, LA, and a few other coastal towns, the rest of the state would not break off.

I agree.

What we have is a group of 3 to 4 rebellious city-states run by Democratic Party machines. If a the Civil War between America and California occurs the coastal cities will be put under siege and starved out. These cities will become Mad Max, dystopian hellholes that will induce the populace to flee for their lives. The city states will fall with a whimper and most of the damage will be caused by the rebels themselves.

Also, if war between California and the United States occurs, Mexico will not be spared and they will lose even more territory. It wouldn't be unreasonable to imagine that the entire west coast of Mexico could be taken over.

Should that come to pass, do not rejoin another state in the US, but become your own state, say, Northern California, not yet part of the US, and keep the dam libturds out, ship them out, whatever,..., set up your own laws that align with the US Constitution, then rejoin the US.

Easy fix - we’ve still got those deteriorating nuclear weapons. Make Commiefornia a testing range for our biggest baddest nukes. “Hey, Joe, what’s that strange glow in the western sky?” “Oh, that’s just Commiefornia melting.

Well I agree with your sentiment and it is what the parasites leading California deserve, there are a lot of good Americans there. Bringing California to heal would involve blockading their ports, putting the major metropolitan areas under siege, and cutting off their water, electricity, fuel, and Internet. Modern life would become impossible and they would surrender.

I can envision the Chinese “clearing the decks” of welfare recipients, druggies, homeless, and the like on day one.

Totally true. I work in Silicon Valley but have a weekend house in the Sierras. Everyone up there is conservative. If California voted to secede, counties like that one would leave California to stay in the US. And given that’s where all the water comes from (for Northern Cal at least)......

Most of the drinking water for Southern California comes from the Colorado River Aqueduct. If California attempt to succeed it's agricultural industry is going to be hard hit as the water will be cut off and Arizona will become the new Imperial Vally.

Southern California gets its water supply from eight other states which I don't think will be willing to share the water.

Guaranteed if they did secede, they’d still DEMAND federal money. It’s the mental illness called liberalism.

The reality is most of the U.S. would like to see them gone making it politically touchy at best. If they want to go, we want them to go, who’s going to stop it? And why?

In the final analysis I think it more likely the State fragments, and in the process reality sets in and they all go home and leave it alone.

They don’t think, they feel. Now Bankrupt Memphis, TN wants to secede from the State, it could not survive without state money. They can’t fund schools, LEO, Fire, teachers, the 1 public hospital, or the welfare rolls. Much less fix the potholes, or get the trash picked up on a regular basis.

“start the engine” of “red” counties then seceding from California... and maybe those of Oregon and maybe even Washington following.

Yes and if the new state of California resists the red counties seceding it will be open civil war. Not between California and the Union but between California counties.

A short hot war of city states. As the blue cities and counties fall one after one there will be a mas exodus of liberal trash poring across the border.

We need to start building the wall now!

Well, then the “good Americans” have but two choices:

1.) Leave and surrender the state to the invaders.

OR

2.) Take up arms, and slaughter the invaders and their enablers - no mercy, no quarter, no prisoners.

Interesting!

If the issue is put on a statewide ballot, is that not a sign of open rebellion? Could not California be declared a state in open rebellion, then subsequently occupied by Federal troops, broken up, and re-established as a group of separate states, under the same process that created West Virginia at the outset of the Civil War?
