While it is true that indentured servants only served a limited term (3 to 7, or more, years), they were not free during that term. The first Africans brought to the mainland English colonies came as indentured servants. It was only after about a generation that the Negro's term was extended to life, and chattel slavery began (Virginia was the first colony in what is now the US to do so, I believe.) By that time there were already free Blacks with white indentured servants. Not many, to be sure, but some.
On the other hand, what of all the mulatto, quadroon, and octaroon, slaves? Mulatto's are just as ‘white’ as they are ‘black,’ have just as many European ancestors as African, and quadroons and so on have more Caucasian than Negro DNA. Does not that make them white slaves?
“While it is true that indentured servants only served a limited term (3 to 7, or more, years)”
Yeah, that’s why it isn’t slavery.
These people were not sold, nor was it hereditary, and these people had legal rights.
People that try to equate this to chattle slavery just sound like idiots.
