New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a New York City native, raised eyebrows last week after he claimed that he was an illegal immigrant and taunted officials to deport him. Im undocumented. You want to deport an undocumented person, start with me because Im an undocumented person, Cuomo, 60, said during a bill signing. During the bizarre speech, the New York governor criticized the "extreme conservative movement" for being "anti-immigrant." He said his family, who emigrated to the U.S. from Italy, was constantly ridiculed with a racial slur that he said meant without papers.
Im an Italian-American. I came from poor Italian-Americans who came here. You know what they called Italian-Americans back in the day? They called them wops, Cuomo said, referring to the pejorative slur for Italians. You know what wop stood for? Without papers.
According to the Online Etymology dictionary, the slur originated from southern Italian dialect guappo, which means dandy, dude, stud. The dictionary said its not an acronym.
A day earlier, Cuomo addressed a group of union workers and said he was raised by poor immigrants from South Jamaica, a neighborhood in Queens, New York. His father Mario, a three-term governor of New York, was born in Queens to Italian immigrant parents. His mother, Matilda, was also born in Queens.
Immigrant advocacy group Make the Road Action has called on Cuomo to apologize for the comments.
To Dreamer and immigrants like me, these fabrications are offensive, Make the Road Action member Antonio Alarcon said in a statement, adding that the governor has no idea what its like to live as an undocumented person.

Cuomo is simply stunad.
I thought that was a gavone. Have I been misinformed all these years?
I heard that word used disparagingly, also. This seems to be a nuance issue. The actual Italian word is cafone, and it translates literally to "boor." So I guess the googoots is crude because he or she is ignorant, but the gavone gets a thrill out of being a jerk.
Maybe hell self-deport.
Challenge accepted.
Thanks. Im not all that knowledgeable about ethnic lingo, but I remember my uncle from New Jersey calling people gavone when I was a kid. Id never heard googoots before.
undignified and mildly insulting
Unlike Obama, his birth certificate IS on file someplace with New York State.
Andrew Cuomo, Born: Dec 06, 1957 (age 60) · Queens, NY, I think he meant undocumented idiot.
“Andrew is a disgrace to the fine Italian people I have known.”
Oh, c’mon. He’s a liberal. One who follows the playbook for the ultra-liberals in the US. Surely he can qualify as a disgrace for about every known race besides Italians can’t he? Let’s face it, he’s earned your disrespect, let’s give credit where it is due.
That’s one of the things about conservatives that bothers me. They try to be too diplomatic, or too kind, and don’t really lay it out there to be seen. It would help John Q if they saw the other side a little more.
Don’t be so nice. Morons like Andrew need a little tough love to get lost cause he can’t be saved. He needs to climb back into the hole he was in until they drug him out to get a little air time for comic relief. It’s time for him to go home now.

“Dont be so nice. Morons like Andrew need a little tough love ...”
I wasn’t being “so nice”. I wish a band of Indian thugees would catch him on his driveway and slowly garote the son of a bitcch until his fish eyes popped out of their sockets! Capisci?
“Capisci?”
Molto bene, molte grazie.

No, I don’t understand Italian but I looked it up and we are on the same wavelength!
Sorry, I thought you were lingual with it. I haven’t used my Italian in years. I had to learn some when I worked for Uncle Sugar. I had to understand enough to get by with Italian government officials. Same with French, Spanish, and German. But Russian and Irish Gaelic were a little beyond me as was the middle eastern dialects like the Mesopotamian Arabic spoken in Iraq. Used a translator for a lot of it but what I could retain, helped.
I doubt if Andrew even speaks some of anything considering he is calling himself a non-citizen of the US. He still speaks moron.
