Cuomo giving parolees right to vote via executive order

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) said on Wednesday that he will sign an executive order giving all parolees in New York the right to vote.

The announcement comes after he noted that the New York Legislature voted down such a measure.

"I'm going to make it law by executive order," Cuomo said during a speech to the National Action Network’s annual conference.

“In this state, when you're released from prison and you're on parole, you still don't have the right to vote,” Cuomo said. “Now how can that be? You did your time. You paid your debt. You're released, but you still don't have a right to vote.”

Uh, no, if you're on parole, it's still part of your sentence and your rights have not been restored. Besides, does he feel the same way about the gun prohibition, which they DO improperly extend beyond restoration of all other rights? Didn't think so.

If the governor's Executive Order is unconstitutional, the courts should decide.

In my opinion, if you pay taxes, parole or not, you should have the right to vote. Taxation without representation is tyranny.

Judges must start explicitly sentencing felons to forfeiture of civil rights, specifically voting rights, until restoration by a court with jurisdiction after hearing evidence on an individual basis.

Blanket executive restoration is likely to occur in all states with Democrat governors, since they view criminals as their constituents for the reasons we all know.
