What happens when a church dedicated to fighting white supremacy is accused of it

It felt like a typical Sunday at the “diverse, spirit-growing, justice-seeking” church. That is the motto of All Souls Church Unitarian, one of the most respected and most multiracial congregations in a denomination where those two attributes are strongly linked. The program that congregants received that day noted a workshop to support Latin American youth and intensive training on race and ethnicity. There was a request for volunteers to fix up the room named after the late black pastor David Eaton, who led All Souls in the ’70s to being one of the first racially inclusive Unitarian Universalist churches in the country.

A few years back I took a ferry shuttle out of Portsmouth NH to Isle of Shoals. This church has a large retreat complex there. The Isle was neat but a lot of very weird types hanging about.

[ Be careful making fun of Unitarians.

I did once.

They showed up and burned a giant question mark in my front yard. ]

Unitarians: Sorta like Agnostics but far more obnoxious about it.

Comment from the article

I am a UU who does not buy this "white guilt" crap. The BLM, the white guilt, the "it's all racism" crap 24/7/365 is destroying the UU church. The UUA shows pictures of people, and there are ALWAYS black folks in the pictures, even though black members are 1/2 of 1%. We talk about race all the time. I am tired of it. I am not a UU to be a self-hating martyr. Take this racism garbage elsewhere. I am interested in spiritual matters.

What is the difference between an atheist and a Unitarian?
Atheist like to gather with other atheist to reinforce their beliefs. I think that Atheism is a religion. It is a belief that cannot be proven or disproven.

Did anyone sing “96 Tears”?

Anyway you gotta love a guy that does this:

” ....

‘?’ was an eclectic figure, publicly stating that his soul had originated from Mars and that he once walked on Earth with the dinosaurs. “?”

What happens when a church dedicated to fighting white supremacy is accused of it.

I don't know. What happens when a news organization claims it is dedicated to the truth but instead hides the truth?

My niece attended a UU church for several months. It all broke down when some congregation members complained that the minister talked too much about God in her homilies. Too much God. I don’t think they know what they believe or if they feel comfortable having beliefs.

I had that feeling, too. It was religion without that annoying God. A gathering place for those who feel guilty for not having religious convictions of any strength, the session was somewhere between deism and existentialism without the guilt of the former or the angst of the latter.

The Units in our mostly white neighborhood have put up a "Black Lives Matter" sign on their Unitorium. Don't see them inviting too many black folks for some Unitizing.

Exactly. I guess that some people are drawn to spiritualism without judgment. Any mention of God (with a capital G) stirs up in the heart feelings of guilt and uncleanness. They don’t seem to mind pathetic human beings judging them, but a Supreme being might not be so sympathetic towards their pet sins.

I have a cousin who stopped going to church in favor of practicing her spirituality at home. She listened to Christian pop music but I don’t think it got much beyond that. Anyway, without some sort of doctrinal anchorage, she got farther and farther out. Sort of holy driftwood.

Oh my friend, that is funny. Glad I wasn’t drinking coffee when I read it.
