Dershowitz confronts Hannity: 'You should have disclosed your relationship with Cohen'
The Hill ^ | 04/16/2018 | Brett Samuels

Posted on 04/17/2018 6:33:13 AM PDT by GIdget2004

Attorney and frequent Fox News guest Alan Dershowitz criticized host Sean Hannity on Monday for not disclosing his relationship with Michael Cohen, President Trump's attorney, during his frequent discussions about Cohen in recent weeks.

Dershowitz, a defender of Trump amid his legal woes, was brought on to discuss former FBI Director James Comey’s Sunday night interview on ABC News, but first addressed the Monday revelation that Hannity is the previously unnamed client of Cohen.

“I really think you should have disclosed your relationship with Cohen,” Dershowitz said, calling it a “complicated situation.”

“It was minimal,” Hannity responded.

“I understand that, and you should’ve said that,” Dershowitz, an opinion contributor for The Hill, replied. You were in a tough position because, A, you had to talk about Cohen, and, B, you didn’t want the fact hat you had spoken with him to be revealed.”

“I have the right to privacy,” Hannity interjected. “It was such a minor relationship.”

“You should have said that,” Dershowitz said.

Hannity was revealed to be Cohen's client during a hearing Monday afternoon related to last week's FBI raids of Cohen's office and home. Cohen's attorney only shared Hannity's identity after a judge ordered him to.

Hannity is a staunch ally of Trump’s, and frequently defends the president on his Fox News show. He was fiercely critical of last week’s raids on Cohen’s office, using it as a launching point to attack special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

That’s what my conservative friend says ie be upfront. But I just don’t see it. To me there is no relation in this matter. No law broken. Plus journalists don’t tell us when they are married to a person in politics etc etc etc. I know Rush has said many times: did u know that journalist X is married to so=and-so in DNC etc etc etc.

I do wish I could understand the big deal made by Dershowitz. I just don’t see the relevance.

If I was Hannity I would have said right back to him: “You should disclose the details of your relationship with Epstein and your trips to Pedo Island right now!!”

A legal client pays for services and has an expectation of attorney client privilege for some of those conversations.

No retainer, no invoice, no payment - he’s a dude Hannity talked to occasionally.

Interesting that Cohen declared Hannity a client. Aside, I don't think it is for the world to know in any case.

>> Cohen was not his lawyer <<

Seems correct to me.

But on the other hand, Mike Cohen’s lawyers told Judge Wood that Cohen WAS Hannity’s lawyer.

Therefore, somebody here is not telling the truth.

And if that “somebody” is one of Cohen’s lawyers, then he or she could be disbarred and/or heavily fined for lying to a federal judge.

He may be a snake. I like Alan to a certain extent (as much as I can like the occasional lawyer). Don’t know if that makes me a “Fanboy”. I do know Alan’s right. Hannity should have revealed it.

Now that it’s out there, the question comes, WHAT FREAKING DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

Sean is a private citizen.

He spoke to a lawyer. A high powered attorney. Does that make him corrupt? No.

Did the attorney do something that was illegal? No.

Did Muller and the SDNY overstep their bounds and enter into possible disbarment territory? Absolutely.

The liberal media would take up more time on the introduction/disclaimers of their guests that there would be no time to interview their guests.

That's ready made to be a drug commercial. 10 secs for your product and 50 secs to cover the disclaimers.

You are correct. They don’t have any shame. They aren’t good people. Sean is.

He’s better than this.

When things got to that point on Friday, he should have stated in his show, as a personal note, that he’d consulted with Cohen on a real estate deal at one point, but that wasn’t relevant to this case. It would have cleared all the situation.

The other people you mentioned, they will get theirs eventually. Whether here or down below (because there’s no way those slime are going up.)

The only way you are gonna get any attorney/client privilege these days is when you are alone in the same cell together, both of you on trumped up charges and the hidden microphone is on the fritz!

Truer words never spoken! Then again, they might have a lip reader outside the cell.

Absolutely no ones’ business.
This is further proof that Meuller should be hauled away in chains and flogged in the Public Square.

It’s outrageous isn’t it, they’re taking the most miniscule things and blowing them up to ridiculous heights. I was reading Huffington all the regressives absolutely frothing at the mouth “WE GOT HIM!” Got him for WHAT? For talking to a lawyer? Is this now illegal in the world of regressive land?

It was because he was defending Cohen and it could have been construed by some slimy leftist scumbags that he was doing so not because it was the right thing (because they don’t know who Sean is), but because he was being self-serving.

Alan was right. Sean was right to protect his privacy to a point, but at some point, reveal the personal connection so that it isn’t some talking point for the left to try to create scandal where there is none.

Professor Dershowitz: Mr Hannity was not and is not a client of Mr Cohen. That’s why he didn’t need to disclose anything.

Why did Cohen’s lawyers say Sean was a client if they have no monetary relationship? I don’t understand that one.

I confess. A few months ago I called a lawyer for some advice on an illegal U-turn ticket I got. Oh wait, excuse my foul language - I meant an undocumented U-turn ticket I got.
