Yes, enlisted at 17 in 1961, medically discharged in’72.

Great actor, greater American. He claimed to have been blackballed by Hollyweird after voicing his views on Barry. I assume this was true.

Yes. He was a Marine, and also a drill instructor. Stanley Kubrick brought him on originally as only a technical advisor. However Ermey obviously was so qualified he got the part.
