Former first lady Barbara Bush is in failing health, a source close to the Bush family tells CNN. At 92 years old, Bush has been suffering for some time and has been in and out of the hospital multiple times in the last year while battling with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, and congestive heart failure. The source said she is being cared for at her home in Houston and has decided she does not want to go back into the hospital.

-- When either Bush finally goes, do you think Trump will be welcome at the funeral? --

I assume you mean GWB and GHWB. I would think those public affairs involving past heads of state, Trump would "have to be invited" and "have to appear." He'd handle it fine. He'd pretty much have to appear, it's more than a family decision.

Trump isn't going to deliberately insert himself privately where he isn't welcome, and he is obviously not in the Bush family orbit.

If you live to be 92, you can't say "too much smoking"!

Some people just have good genes and can overcome a lot of "bad" habits.

Just ask George Burns.

A more interesting question to me is whether Trump will be welcome at the funeral when GHWB passes, because he's a past President, and his funeral is as much an affair of State as a family matter. Excluding Trump from that would really be an exhibition of pettiness that CNN and MSNBC would love to exploit.

Be welcome? Who knows?

But it's a state occasion that a sitting president can't be excluded from.

I'm pretty sure that federal funding is involved: it's not just a family affair.

For Bab's funeral, Mike Pence can go and feel reasonably welcome.

I dont recall, but I wouldn’t be shocked if she did. She is from that time when many women smoked socially, and old habits are hard to break.

Obama didn't make it to Nancy Reagan's funeral.

Not sure if there was something going on in the background or if he was just being his turd self.

Time for the deathbed confession of how you wrote an alibi for your husband, lying about how you guys were NOT in Dallas when JFK was assassinated, when Georgie was indeed there.

Maybe she is the only honest one. She pretty much publically said her son ¡Jeb! was a dim wit.

Good for her. Much better to die at home in your own bed.
I’m very glad for her that she lived long enough to see Yeb! fail in such a spectacular fashion to someone she thought unworthy. And that W finished office with record low approval numbers. And that her husband could only manage one term.

Godspeed Babs.

Not a Jeb Bush fan, but his mom torpedoed what was left of his political career.

Mom of the Year, you almost feel sorry for him.

Almost.

She tried to insult Sarah Palin back in the day. Sarah would have none of her condescending, elitist cuts, and gave it right back to her, in spades. Loved Sarah even more after that!

I’ve lost a lot of respect for the Bush family but wish her well nonetheless

Best line of the 2016 campaign was when Candidate Trump told Jeb maybe his mother should run for President.

“see Yeb! fail in such a spectacular fashion to someone she thought unworthy.”

The really sad part is she wouldn’t have been upset to see him lose to Hillary.

I will also pray that the Holy Spirit convicts her of the sin of hatred of Sarah Palin/Tea Party/true Christian conservatives, so that her sins might be forgiven and her soul saved by Christ.

Who needs God, when we've got you?

I’m sorry for her sufffering. Didn’t know she was a smoker.

I’ll always remember the first photo I saw of her in 1979. She and her husband were standing in the doorway of an airplane smiling at the photographers. I thought, “He must be a bachelor to bring his grandmother to the convention.”

And sure enough, when she became First Lady, she was “Ma Bush” a character like Rose Kennedy whose lust for power drove her husband and sons through lifelong political careers.
