The 10 Best Alien Films Ever Made
PJ Media ^ | 12 Apr 2018 | Lauren Spagnoletti

What is the first thing you think of when you think of an alien movie? Does Sigourney Weaver's bald head pop into your mind as you picture her battling extraterrestrials in Alien 3? Or do you think of something unconventional, like Cloverfield or District 9? The alien genre is one that has certainly evolved over the years as special effects and computer-generated images have improved far beyond anyone's wildest dreams. But the fact of the matter is that for an alien movie to be good (actually, for any movie to be good), it has to tell a really good story, have character development, and be entertaining. Even the most beautiful film can be terrible if you just don't care about the people (or aliens) that you're watching.

Here are my picks for the best alien movies—for various reasons—dating back to 1982. I don't believe that older necessarily means better, but I also don't believe that higher budget means better either. See what you think.

Predator

The original - none of the sequels.

Almost forgot, Sean Connery in

‘Outland’

Yeah, that one is often overlooked, like Kirk Douglas and Farrah in "Saturn 3".

Fun firearms fact. Outland was the only movie that had the Browning B2000 shotgun in it. Side loading gas operated semi auto. Because of the way it was designed, it does not have a recoil spring protruding into the butt stock, so it can be cut down to a true pistol grip sawed off semi.

Very good list. “10 Cloverfield Lane” with John Goodman is another good recent entry.

“Day of the Triffids” and “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” (original and remake) was good too.

I had a Browning B2000. It was a nice shotgun. I have no idea why it was so short lived.

Now that I think about it, when I was selling it to a guy, he cut his finger loading shells into it. He bought it anyway.

He also tried shooting it as fast as he could pull the trigger and it kept up with him. Basically 3 shots in a fraction of a second.

She says since 1982; strikes out my favorite three: 1) The Thing, a lightly disguised allegory about the Bolsheviks coming to America; 2) THEM, about giant ants created by nuclear testing; and 3) ALIEN I, a phenomenal work of art about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.

It’s got a cult following of a sort, just like the double auto. The 20 gauge is more desirable than the 12.

One guy I talked to said the side loading port was a muck and weed magnet in a duck blind.

The gun world throws a lot of ideas against the wall, and sometimes even the better ones don’t stick.

With the right categories, you would probably run the table on Jeopardy.

“The Day of the Triffids” sequel book would be banned by liberals if they knew it existed.
“Motherhouses” where women give birth to as many children as possible to rebuild the human race while NYC runs on human (mostly black) manual labor.

I watch that movie at least three times a year.

There’s also a soft spot in me for Godzilla: Final Wars. Mainly for the classic line spoken to the alien invaders by the only non Japanese actor in it who was also an MMA fighter:
“Son, there’s two things you need to know about the earth. One is me. The other one is.....Godzilla.”

Straight cheese.

I thought Aliens was a lousy movie.

For the first 15 minutes it had me entranced then sort of just fell apart.

I agree. It was creepy, but I kept thinking “why doesn’t someone just open the door?!”

Just watched the first episode. Looks good right now.
Last night I finished a two binge on Season 4 of “Bosch” on Amazon. It was great, 10 episodes was just not enough.
