“That’s handguns only. If you pass the background check, you can buy a long gun in any state. BTDT.”

You can’t legally make an interstate purchase of a long gun without going through an FFL in your own state.

I'm just naturally suspicious, I guess.

Maybe purchase of a gun that is banned in other states is an ATF matter? I don't know. What I do know is that FedGov has data storage facilities everywhere, racks and racks of info, on everyone, and they're building more all the time. You might think a background check goes only to the FBI, that they process it and then destroy it without sharing with anyone. Or you might think that as soon as your request hits the server, everyone knows what you bought and where you live...

“Long guns can be purchased and transferred to a resident of any state in any state provided that the transfer is legal in both the purchaser’s state and the state in which the transfer is taking place.”

Thank goodness he didn’t have a “shoulder thing that goes up”...

I think you are right; and I'm wrong.

Thanks for setting me straight.

That used to be the law. I’m not sure when it changed to allowing long guns to be purchased out of state. Of course you still can’t mail order long guns or handguns for that matter unless a local FFL holder is involved.

“They’d record the license numbers of cars with NJ plates.”

Just the other day I saw some guy in blaze yellow safety gear and an official looking name tag writing down license plates near Seattle. If he had come up to my vehicle I would have asked him why. Perhaps I should have anyway.

Maybe he was looking for idiots from Oregon (no sales tax) that come up to Seattle to shop (10% sales tax).
