My daughter had this in 82 or 83. She WAS treated. Originally they thought she had rheumatic fever. But decided she only had scarlet fever. All her joints were swollen to the point she could barely move. Her hands didnt look like hands they looked like paws. She couldnt bend her knees. She wore gloves for weeks after the swelling went down to cover the flaking skin. She was out of school for 5 weeks. A very terrible time. Maybe they have better treatments in the 21st century.
How is she today? Well, I hope!

Yes. She is manager of the Pulmonary Clinic at IU/Annette hospital. Four beautiful children. We did have to put a warning sign on our front door.
