Thanks!
Did you know that in the USA there are 20 million white people in poverty?
11 million black people in poverty.
8 million Hispanics in poverty.
When I went out to Santa Barbara, California last summer for work, I noticed one thing right away.
No poor white people. Don’t get me wrong, there were plenty of white people. But all upper middle class to straight filthy rich.
Blue collar workers everywhere were 99.999 percent Hispanic or black. I didn’t see many poor. Everyone had a job, which was good.
I talked to these Hispanic guys working at a Carl’s Jr. (the equivalent of my Alabama Hardees) and asked them if they lived there (Santa Barbara) and they had a good laugh. No, Ventura or beyond for them. They could not afford Santa Barbara.
That’s why I often think a lot of Leftist thought is just plain wrong. As Ronald Reagan said, “Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that isnt so.”
If I could get these well-to-do Californians to come to Alabama, would they be shocked to see poor white folks? Would they blame their poverty on incest and stupidity? That would be wrong, but many do. Maybe others would have a epiphany, I don’t know.
It was like when I was in the military for 22 years. My Leftist friends thought I did it because I had to—I grew up in poor white family. What they didn’t understand was my patriotism and desire to simply serve. I loved my time in the military! It was almost always fun, and I felt part of something big and just. Something important.
Ronaldo Magnus was right, what they know isn’t so.
And if you tell them why they're wrong, they either ignore you or call you a racist/bigot/homophobe/anti-conservative label de jour.
