Justice Department announces 'zero-tolerance' policy on illegal border crossings
Fox News ^ | April 6, 2018 | Adam Shaw

The Justice Department announced Friday that it is implementing a “zero-tolerance” policy for prosecuting those attempting to enter the U.S. illegally -- the latest in a series of measures by the Trump administration to combat illegal immigration.

“The situation at our Southwest Border is unacceptable,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said in a statement announcing the policy. “Congress has failed to pass effective legislation that serves the national interest -- that closes dangerous loopholes and fully funds a wall along our southern border. "

“As a result, a crisis has erupted at our Southwest Border that necessitates an escalated effort to prosecute those who choose to illegally cross our border,” he said.

The Trump administration says the number of attempted border crossings has increased by 203 percent since March 2017. In response, Trump this week signed a proclamation sending the National Guard to the border. He has said he would like to see 2,000-4,000 members sent to the border.

The latest move by the Justice Department orders U.S. attorneys along the border to adopt a policy of prosecuting all referrals from DHS of illegal entry and attempted illegal entry into the U.S. It comes almost a year after Sessions issued a memo to federal prosecutors directing them to prioritize certain immigration offenses.

And to think that the Liberals put Sheriff Joe Arpaio out of his job because he effectively used such tent cities.

Maybe Sheriff Joe should be made ‘Honorary Mayor’ in charge of those tent cities???

Strongly worded statements to the press no longer move me.

Enough with the talk. It’s time to walk the walk.

I want to see videos and images of tens of thousands of illegals in handcuffs, under armed military guard, being escorted back across the southern border.

And that’s just on Monday. I want to see the same thing repeated on Tuesday, and every day forward, until we’ve got a real handle on this menace.

Personally, I hate “zero tolerance” policies as they have been implemented. For example a 1/8th inch long replica of a firearm should not get a child expelled from school anymore than a hand drawn picture of a firearm on what is clearly a flat piece of paper. But that happens in the name of zero tolerance.

Similarly, children with a sprained ankle who take aspirin to school as a host of other “over the counter” “drugs” can sometimes be expelled from school under zero tolerance policies.

I don't want any illegal alien protesters crossing the border, but I fear what zero tolerance might mean. Good people can exercise good judgement, in my opinion, which means that zero tolerance may not be required. Strict enforcement fine, but not zero tolerance.

Fully agree. Could it be the huge amounts of cash he throws out to control
the governmental disruption? Then it could also be the promise of more
donations to the Democrat party. Poland seems to view him as a threat.
Perhaps we should also.

If you take this news literally it means that crossers will be taken into custody, charged with a crime, stay in custody, be sentenced then deported. In other words the crosser is in prison until deportation. The effect is to gut catch and release. The exception is that kids will go to foater carebtil deportation.

Excellent idea. Let these invaders pay the American taxpayers back at least part of what they stole from us.

Double the sentence each time they're caught jumping the border again. Illegal immigration would come to a standstill, overnight.

Zero tolerance would mean that any illegals crossing the border will be prosecuted before being deported. Period.

Plenty of internal enemies that need to jailed as well. Easy to spot, too. They all have (D) after their names.

Because if they put on step on US ground, they can ask for assylum. Our laws state we arrest them and turn them over to ICE who gives them a court date to appear some time in future which with back log is 2yrs or more. Then they are released and expected to show up for court.

These are the ones who are found in the desert etc. So many entry points for these people to sneak onto US soil.

Then we should simply seize a swath of Mexico as a safe area and interdict them there.

That’s exactly what Napolean did when squelching the Paris uprisings during French Revolution. He noted this helped save lives by firing live ammo into the crowds-the first person killed sent the message.
