Federal officials arrested 97 immigrants at a meat-processing plant in rural Tennessee late Thursday in what civil rights organizations said was the largest single workplace raid in a decade and a sign that the Trump administration is carrying out its plan to aggressively ramp up enforcement this year.
Ten people were arrested on federal criminal charges, one person was arrested on state charges and 86 immigrants were detained for being in the country illegally.
The National Immigration Law Center and other immigrant advocates said the Tennessee raid was the largest since the George W. Bush administration and deployed many of the tactics of that era, with a surprise blitz of the factory, a helicopter and streets blocked by state and local authorities. ICE officials would not say where the raid ranked in terms of size.
Of the 86 immigrants arrested on civil immigration charges, ICE released 32 but did not explain why. The remaining 54 were being detained, but the agency did not provide their names or say where they were being held.

This is crap, if 86 are illegal aliens, remove all 86.
We should not have to wait until they commit another crime.
They need to look at Tyson, the chicken plant near here still uses illegal aliens.
They never used it. All jobs were cash.
This place is done.
>In the documents, four people were named to be involved with making weekly cash bank transactions starting in 2008 that exceeded $25 million, according to an IRS investigation. That cash was reportedly stored in a vault within the plant and used to pay employees.
The investigation began after federal authorities became aware of financial transactions involving Southeastern Provisions bank accounts at Citizens Bank,” the affidavit said. “Bank personnel began noticing large amounts of cash being withdrawn from the Southeastern Provisions bank accounts. The cash withdrawals happened on a weekly basis.
Of those named in the investigation were James Brantley, the President and GM of Southeastern Provisions, as well as his wife Pamela, their daughter Kelsey and another employee named Priscilla Keck.
James Brantley and others are accused in the affidavit of willfully attempting to evade or defeat payment of federal employment taxes, unlawfully employing Illegal aliens, willfully failing to to collect and pay federal employment taxes, and filing false tax returns.<
97 criminal invaders arrested
I live in East Tennessee.
Local TV news stations has sided with the illegals.
It’s digusting.
“How many business owners / managers were arrested and charged”
Likely Zero...
As long as they present the correct documents, FAKE OR NOT, you are not allowed to question them, for fear of lawsuits.
This was policy at a major company I used to work for. Cheaper to take the potential penalties, than to face a lawsuit costing tens of millions.
Such is America today.
I’m sure they use illegals at most, if not all their plants. They LOVE that cheap labor.
The one in Shelbyville was busted several years ago.
Next thing we knew, the town was full of Somalis who moved down from Nashville to work at the plant. Tyson figured out how to keep cheap labor without using illegals.
Still plenty of illegals in the area though. We see them in our little town regularly. I guess the farmers and tree nurseries hire them.
“300 US citizens will be in line tomorrow to fill those positions.”
Years ago an IBP plant was raided in Nebraska. So many illegals were carted off they had to close the plant.
An IBP suit was on tv explaining that they had to hire illegals because Americans wouldn’t even apply.
The plant started taking applications and they had five times more American citizens apply than they needed.
IBP refused further comment.
“...follows arrests at 7-Eleven stores and other workplaces nationwide.”
They were after Indians too?
I remember that. They had hundreds of Americans lined up for those jobs.
Yeah, kind of shows the lie of “jobs Americans won’t do.”
Pay a decent wage and there is no job an American won’t do. They just don’t like working for third world pay.
Yep - but one might assume that as these small wins start to occur more often, they will have an effect which snowballs the departure of illegals...
I am good with that, too.
Scumbag employer going down too:
“In a federal affidavit, IRS Special Agent Nicholas R. Worsham said the family-run plant is under criminal investigation for allegedly evading taxes, filing false tax returns and hiring immigrants in the country illegally.
“He alleged the facility failed to report $8.4 million in wages and to pay at least $2.5 million in payroll taxes for dozens of undocumented workers.
“Federal agents began investigating the company months ago after Citizens Bank employees noticed that Southeastern Provision was withdrawing large sums of cash every week more than $25 million since 2008. Worsham said the plant hired undocumented workers who were paid in cash”
Winning! More, please.
