American conservatives are still clueless about the 97% expert climate consensus

Gallup released its annual survey on American perceptions about global warming last week, and the results were a bit discouraging. While 85–90% of Democrats are worried about global warming, realize humans are causing it, and are aware that most scientists agree on this, independents and Republicans are a different story. Only 35% of Republicans and 62% of independents realize humans are causing global warming, a similar number are worried about it, and only 42% of Republicans and 65% of independents are aware of the scientific consensus.

The Trump administration’s polarizing stance on climate change is probably the main contributor to this decline in conservative acceptance of climate change realities. A recent study found evidence that “Americans may have formed their attitudes [on climate change] by using party elite cues” delivered via the media. In particular, the study found that Fox News “is consistently more partisan than other [news] outlets”.

The challenge is that politicians on Fox News and other media outlets are able to reach a wide audience with their polarizing messages about climate change. Reaching a similarly sized audience not only with facts but also inoculation against the misinformation is a daunting task.

While Americans badly underestimate the expert consensus – just 13% are aware there’s over 90% expert agreement, and the average American thinks the consensus is just 67% – despite growing polarization, few believe that most scientists reject global warming.

Most Americans are simply unaware about and thus underestimate the expert climate consensus. While a number of people can’t be convinced by the facts due to their polarized views, many more in that undecided, uninformed group remain open-minded and reachable.

We could solve the problem if conservative politicians and media outlets would simply stop spreading misinformation about and polarizing the subject of climate change.

“As everyone knows”

Ah, the old Affirming the Antecedent logical fallacy.

How precious...

“97% of the 75 surveys selected from a response of 7000 returned forms.”

And even then, the “consensus” is not what the leftists and media claim it is.

It is merely that the earth has been and will likely continue warming - to some unspecified time, unspecified amount, and uncertain consequences - and that the human contribution of greenhouse gases plays some “significant” role in that warming - without defining what “significant” means (20%?, 51%?, 95%).

But of course the left keeps claiming the study shows that there is a 97% consensus related to the most dire predictions and the highest levels of human contributions (95%) to the warming - which is completely untrue.

What is scientific about a “scientific consensus”?

Only idiots accept the idea that there is global warming. Which means there are many idiots in America as well as in the rest of the world.

“Consensus” is NOT an element of the Scientific Method!

The 97% figure is also bogus.

It is 97% of a select 32% of those responding.

And just exactly are the qualifications for being deemed an “expert”?

While 85–90% of Democrats are worried about global warming, realize humans are causing it, and are aware that most scientists agree on this, independents and Republicans are a different story.

Disregarding the principles of sound science, 85–90% of Democrats continue to needlessly worry about man-caused global warming. They do not realize that climate change is caused by the Sun. They are not aware that the science is far from settled.

Democrats are certainly not aware that we may be on the cusp of global cooling.

Mankind has zero impact on climate change and global warming or global cooling. Our Sun is the primary cause of climate change in the solar system.

. What cause the earth to warm, and ice to retreat which ended previous ice ages?

Can't be. There were never any ice sheets, as the Earth is only a little over six thousand years old... < /the other extreme >

Most of Florida has been destroyed by global warming and it's all your fault. Tampa, Miami and Jacksonville should be a hundred miles inland and safe from sabre tooth manatee attacks.

We are living in between ice ages. The last ice age did not end because humans caused global warming; it was forces far stronger and outside man’s control.

I am reminded of years past when Al Gore made some pronouncement that 900 scientists (the exact number eludes me, it was in the hundreds however) all agree, global warming is real. Well, when digging into just who those “scientists” were, turns out they were political science majors. Just more lies when they were trying to get the whole carbon credits sham up and running.

Man made global warming is a scam. Never and I mean never do I hear these journo’s or the left take into account the activity of Sol, or our location within the galaxy as we bounce above and below the galactic plane or even about the Earth’s 100,000 year “wobble”. Those three things alone are enough to impact our weather on a very long time span.

Even if we worked out asses off trying to warm this blue ball in space up; we still couldn’t contend with the likes of what Mount St. Helen’s spewed into the atmosphere when it blew.

/rant off..
