I worked part time and took 21 hours every semester to graduate in 3 years (before the days of high school AP classes). I lived in the dorm all three years and ate in the dining hall M-F. The dining hall wasn't opened on Friday evening or the weekends. I didn't eat Friday evenings. Every Saturday, I ate one can of Spaghettios and on Sundays it was one snack pack at the chicken place (one piece of chicken, fries and biscuit). Learned to loved instant tea make with tap water. I didn't realize I was deprived or starving as that's what everyone did.
And don't forget the stipend so they can smoke some weed and buy condoms when the course load gets too heavy.
But they got enough for booze and pot.

Yes, the definition of “not enough to eat” is stretched to “occasionally hungry”.
I had an experience much like yours between Sophmore and Junior years. I was not as ambitious to get through school. It took me four years.
Congrats on getting through in three.
I got hungry, but I was too proud to ask family for extra money.
Good character building experience.
I had a full time job as a full time student, and I was broke and hungry plenty of times. Nobody wrote an article.
Top Ramen with frozen veggies added. Then a can of chicken breast added for a Sunday treat.
And if they ‘snort their condoms’ there will be welfare/food stamps and baby stuff from government! So from college to death...taxpayer responsibility1

In college, I’d resort to dried beans, day-old bread, expired food sales, anything to make ends meet. And they did. I just had to be very very careful with what little that I had.
Catsup and hot water to make soup. Boiled potatoes and boiled eggs. Top Ramen. Hamburger Helper if we had a couple extra bucks. Oddly good times.
Laundry costs $100??? Does she send it all to the dry cleaners? Guess this snowflake has never heard of washing out her clothes in the sink or hanging them to dry. I spent a grand total of 45 cents for a can of Spaghettios and $1.50 for a fried chicken snack pack for my weekend eats. Ok, I'm old so lets figure today it would cost $7. Her $100 would feed me for 14 weekends - or the entire semester.
When I was on scholarship I made it on basically one meal a day. At Troy, the training table was only for Supper. It was all you could eat tho.
I would eat all I could then take a half dozen ice cream sandwiches home with me. I lived off campus but within walking distance.
For breakfast I would have two of them then for lunch the remaining four. Then for Supper start all over again.
My eligibility ran out the last 3 months before graduation. I went one day without any food at all but it was my own fault. I spent all the money on a small portable TV.
Hah, and we did ‘Macaroni & Cheese” for half our meals, and on Sunday, for a gourmet meal, we would have macaroni and cheese with a can of tuna mixed in.
I would scrape together $1.60. Then go to White Castle and buy 10 $0.15 burgers plus tax. That would feed me for a week, assuming I could borrow some space in a fridge.
Perhaps he could get a job. My son worked while at college to pay for many things like food.

Crisis my a$$. I never had any money when in college in the 70’s ....lived on potato egg hash ($.30)/serving for 3 years.
It’s part of college always has been.
There were days I'd WISHED I had a can of spaghetti-o's to eat, FFS. Damn' snowflakes don't know how good they have it.
Did the kid consider getting a job? My son is also a senior. He worked full time for two summers, was a lab manager at college and then got a college job in his field.
