What crummy state do you live in? I suspect a northern state.

Here in the wonderful state of Texas YOU CAN SHOOT if the criminal has stolen something from you and runs off of your property and you suspect that he will get away and it will not be recovered.

Be careful there. You're much safer on a shoot such as this if it is after civil dusk or before civil dawn. During daylight hours the 'rules' are somewhat different. In general though, yeah, the Texas laws on such things are pretty good for the law abiding citizen.
