'Seismic shift’: New law will reduce number of juveniles sent to adult court in Washington state

The new law will reduce the number of 16- and 17-year-olds who have been charged with a handful of violent offenses from entering the adult criminal-justice system. It also extends juvenile jurisdiction to age 25, up from age 21, for those convicted of certain crimes.

By Sara Jean Green

Seattle Times staff reporter

Robbing a convenience store at gunpoint or spraying bullets from a moving vehicle are the kinds of crimes that will no longer see 16- and 17-year-olds automatically sent to adult court — and likely, on to adult prison.

Gov. Jay Inslee recently signed legislation that represents what one lawmaker called “a seismic shift” in the state’s efforts to reform the juvenile-justice system. The new law removes a handful of crimes from the list of what are known as auto-decline offenses and extends juvenile jurisdiction for those specific crimes to age 25.

The new law also increases sentences for those crimes, called A++ offenses, with the time served in juvenile-rehabilitation facilities instead of the state’s prisons.

Inslee is a ma-roon

California! Get out of the way! The Governor of King County is passing on your left!

The D's have the illegal votes and now are moving to under 18's to super solidify their majority.

This legislative session, a bill was passed to "get out the vote". It included "pre-registering" 16 and 17 year olds. Hmm, I wonder what that is all about??

So they will be setting up for the next mass murderer that wasn’t identified through background checks and detected and stopped by police action before before they graduated to mass murderer status. Then they will be baffled and pass irrelevant, oppressive laws that have nothing to do with the cause of their problem.

Folks in Washington, state of, should take a good look at what’s going on in Chicago regarding this.

What could possibly go wrong?

Madness!

Not if your intent is the destruction of American society. Calling a 25 year old a juvenile so that he can avoid prison and instead putting them in juvenile hall with real children so they can abuse them is beyond madness, it's evil!

And surprise, it's not California!

It’s a start but IMHO they are not thinking this through.

Minority mothers shouldn’t have to worry that they might not ever see their son again every time he goes out to mug a white cracker or loot a store.

If the polices would just eliminate all the unfair laws against wrongdoing they could drop the crime rate to ZERO!

And every kid would have a clean record and every kid would be free to go home at night.

Now that would be PROGRESSIVENESS In Action!

This means thousands of violent criminal offenders will not be identified in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) so they can be prevented from purchasing firearms. If I were paranoid I would conclude this is part of the ruling class scheme to let a gun atrocity occur of such magnitude there will be a political groundswell for UK/Australia style total gun confiscation.

Just so I get this straight; 25 year-olds can be treated as juveniles (for certain crimes) because they somehow aren’t ready for adult responsibilities and consequences, and yet we are told we must listen to 17 year olds on matters like gun control.

What do you think he’ll do if one of them should break into his mansion to “thank” him personally? /s;)

They will regret this move. Well, the elite will not since they have armed guards around them but the average Joe will.

I believe it means 16 & 17 year-olds can be held as juvies until 25, instead of being released at 21. It means they can be held longer as juveniles for serious crimes, in exchange for not being put in the adult system automatically.

18 year-olds and up would still be tried as adults.

I'm a self-diagnosed paranoid, and I say that's exactly what it is. Remember, it all started with the failure of Obola's Fast & furious gun running/massacre scheme to stir up opposition the the 2d Amendment. They've escalated the false flag massacres since with the Douglas HS massacre being the most obvious and spectacular so far.

Worst of all, if they get the confiscation they want, they'll just get more crime and massacres. Gun control is a crime and atrocity enabling scheme.

When I worked with juvenile delinquents, they got turned loose on their 18th birthday, no matter their crime or sentence with a clean record.

It’s actually the only good part of the law. Basically, Parole and probation get to keep its hook in offenders until they turn 25 instead of releasing them at 21. Doesn’t mean they have to house them in the kiddie section after their 18th birthday

This proved to work so well in the Coward County school system.

Glad I don’t live in Seattle.
